Yes, it’s true! I love drawing coastal artwork. It’s my way of bringing the good life by the water home 🦀⛵️🏝️

Old ways, good ways. 🦌🥃

This is the first piece in a new series pairing classic cocktails with the wildlife that matches their spirit. Each drink gets its own guardian animal and a setting that tells its story.

The Old Fashioned had to come first. It’s the original cocktail, steady and timeless, so it needed a guardian with the same quiet confidence. The stag stands watch in a stand of evergreens, with cedar sprigs wrapping around the glass, a twist of orange peel, a cherry on the pick, and a couple of ice cubes resting at his feet. A little cedar waxwing hitched a ride too, perched right on his back. 🐦

I also tried something new with this one. I used a set of screen printing brushes to get that slightly imperfect, ink on paper look, then layered in halftone textures to give it the feel of a vintage print. It pulled me out of my usual polished process, and I love the character it adds. It felt like the right approach for a drink that’s all about the old ways.

Same old fashioned, new tricks. 🥃I’ve drawn this drink more times than I can count, so tonight I gave myself a challenge...

Same old fashioned, new tricks. 🥃

I’ve drawn this drink more times than I can count, so tonight I gave myself a challenge: put away my usual brushes and try something new.

Packed and ready for the shore. 🌊

I pulled my favorite coastal pieces into one collage: the marlin, the old cooler, the life ring, the anchor, the sailboat, and the straw hat that's seen too many summers. All of it on weathered paper, with a little tag in the corner like it came off your favorite pair of trunks.

Every piece is hand illustrated, with stipple shading and texture built up one layer at a time. It's a reminder of the kind of days that slow everything down.

Which one are you grabbing first? The cooler or the fins? 👇
