This is "The Production Triangle". It's been the holy grail of television shoots for decades. As the saying goes, "there are three ways you can do a production... GOOD, FAST and CHEAP. Pick two."
You can do a production GOOD and CHEAP, but it won't be FAST.
You can do it FAST and GOOD, but it won't be CHEAP.
Or you can do it FAST and CHEAP, but it won't be GOOD.
Of course, the last one is the one to avoid. Seasoned vets will say "you can't beat the triangle."
Then came YouTube and social media. Many of the most followed accounts and most popular influencers don't have pristine lighting and immaculate audio.
So is it time to rethink the triangle? These platforms are one big experiment that tells us it's less important our content be perfectly back lit, sound proof and shadow-free, and more important that it be interesting, entertaining and relevant.
