A fascinating story I worked on for People about an actor who survived an abduction by serial killer John Wayne Gacy decades ago. This quote was really heartbreaking: "I knew I couldn’t anger him. I just had to diffuse the situation and act like everything was okay. That’s the way I had survived as a kid—we learned to lie low during my parents’ rages."

I love designing feature layouts for People magazine, but designing "5 Things We're Talking About" is definitely the most fun for me. Particularly this one—I mean, any page that features both Waffle House and an alien has got to be fun, right?

What a miracle that this man survived! I've learned so much from the team at People magazine about visual storytelling—both from the editors and the art team. This is one of my favorite layouts I've done since I've been there.
