Do you have an iPhone? I need you to do something right now. Go to Settings>Privacy & Security, scroll down to Journaling Suggestions, then toggle OFF the Discoverable by Others.

That journaling app that appeared with the most recent iOS update? Its default settings allow other people around you to see you and make journaling suggestions. I’m sorry? Shouldn’t Apple need to ask my permission before sneakily including a setting like that in a software update?

Part of my job as a VA is that I get to help small business owners extract themselves from the mucky drudgery - the stuff that eats at them (“I should be doing xyz, I haven’t had time to do abc, I’m really missing the boat by not doing qrs…) - and get them back to running their businesses exactly the way they want, allowing them and their businesses to show up in the world exactly how they intended.

Right now I’m doing that by:
- writing contracts that cover all the bases
- drafting job descriptions that lure just the right candidates
- marketing events that draw clientele who will truly appreciate the vibe and BUY THINGS
- creating copy that’s informative and engaging that will translate into sales

I’ve been absent for a few weeks, dealing with my first bout of covid, recovering, and spending a glorious week away with family. For the past few days, I’ve been raging. I’m really contemplating my activism in the immediate and near future, but for right now, I’m reading, listening, learning and holding space.

No one is more astounded than me by the fact that I now have 3 clients and am meeting with a potential 4th tomorrow morning. When I put an Instagram account out there with a business name on it, I had no idea what would happen. I just… I hoped for a bite before the kids went back to school in the summer and I would have free time. Here I am, about a month later, with actual clients. I’m so grateful and excited about my 2nd career (3rd if being a SAHM counts as one 😉). 💜

Sitting in my serene home office tonight, thinking about productivity. I don't especially love the term "hack" because... I don't know. It feels scammy to me or something. But If there was one hack that has stuck with me for over 15 years now, it's the concept of MITs - Most Important Tasks. I used to read Leo Babauta Zen Habits’s blog religiously. I also used to read Leonie Dawson’s blog all the time. Those two favorites collided one day when I saw Leonie's beautiful watercolor representation of Leo's Key Zen Habits.

The concept of MITs really grabbed me. I began using a square post-it every day to write my top 3 MITs. I didn’t allow myself to deviate my workflow to other things until I got those done, and if I got interrupted, I couldn't be done for the day until the 3 MITs were done.

Recently, I found these cute little yellow "Today's Top Three" post-its at Target and they are perfect for my MITs. Now that my business is taking off, I find myself writing 2 of these notes every day - one for work and one for personal. It really helps me. Maybe the concept of MITs will help you, too.
