Over 18 million developers worldwide are already using artificial intelligence or machine learning in their work, with another 8.3 million planning to start within the next six months.

According to the latest Evans Data Corp. Worldwide Developer Population Report, this rapid uptake reflects a fundamental shift in how developers build, optimize, and deploy software.
The momentum spans across all major regions:
• Asia-Pacific leads with over 5.2 million developers currently using AI and ML.
• EMEA follows with 2.95 million current users
• North America, despite being a mature market, still shows strong momentum with nearly 1.8 million developers expecting to begin within six months.

For companies that create tools, platforms, or services for developers, the message is clear. Aligning with AI and ML workflows is no longer optional if you want to remain relevant in a fast-growing global market.

Are your developer-facing products keeping pace with this shift?

What opportunities or challenges do you foresee as AI and ML become standard components of software development?

GenAI Adoption is surging worldwide with 84% of developers who are currently using or plan to use AI/ML within the next year report using generative AI tools.

This is no longer a fringe technology. It has become foundational.

Generative AI is changing how software teams handle ideation, documentation, and coding. Developers across all major regions are integrating these tools into their workflows. Adoption is highest in the Asia-Pacific region at 88%, with North America close behind at 86%.

Even in regions with slightly lower numbers, the majority of developers are still engaged. This points to a near-universal shift toward integrating generative AI into development work.

For companies creating tools for developers, this is more than just a trend. It is a clear message. Developers now expect generative AI features and functionality to be built in.

Is your developer-facing product keeping pace with this shift?

How are you adapting your tools and strategies to support the developers already relying on generative AI?

Cloud-Native Targets: Windows Still Leads

More than 75% of cloud-native developers globally are targeting Windows operating systems. This puts Windows well ahead of Linux and macOS in the cloud-native development landscape.

Our Global Development Survey Report shows that 40.6% of developers primarily target Windows Server, while another 34.9% target other versions of Windows. In comparison, only 13.8% focus on Linux and 10.1% on macOS.

The regional breakdown highlights notable differences:
• In the Asia-Pacific region, a majority of developers target Windows Server (50.8%)
• North American developers are more likely to target non-Server Windows versions (36.3%) and macOS (16.9%)
• Developers in Latin America are the most likely to prioritize non-Server Windows releases (44.6%)

These findings point to regional variations in enterprise infrastructure, developer tooling, and deployment practices.

For companies building tools and platforms for developers, these insights raise important questions. Are your products optimized for the operating systems that developers are actually using in their cloud-native workflows?

As cloud-native strategies continue to evolve, understanding the platforms developers target is key to delivering relevant tools, integrations, and support.

Top Feature Developers Use in Online Communities: Nearly one in four developers say forums are the most-used feature of their primary developer community website.

This finding highlights the ongoing importance of traditional, text-based interaction in developer ecosystems. Even with the rise of video, chatbots, and social networking tools, forums continue to be the preferred option for developers who want technical support, peer input, and quick troubleshooting.

Social Q&A systems and social networks follow closely behind, showing a strong preference for interactive, community-driven platforms. These environments allow developers to share knowledge, seek help, and build credibility through features like contributor badges and reputation scores.

For companies managing developer communities, the message is clear. Focus on features that enable transparency, timely support, and peer-to-peer collaboration. These are the elements developers gravitate toward. (See the report findings here: https://evansdata.com/devrel)

What tools are at the center of your developer community strategy? Are you investing in what developers value most?

Quantum Confidence Varies Widely by Age

Nearly 8 in 10 developers believe quantum computing will be mainstream by 2030, but the level of conviction differs dramatically across age groups.

According to our Developer Marketing Survey Report 2025, 27% of developers strongly agree with that prediction, while 50% somewhat agree. But when we look at the data by age, a sharp generational divide emerges.

Developers under 30 are the most optimistic: 32% strongly agree, and more than half (53%) somewhat agree. Those aged 31–40 are close behind, with 26% strongly agreeing and 61% somewhat agreeing.

Yet among developers over 50, only 11% strongly agree that quantum will be mainstream by 2030. In fact, half of that group either somewhat or strongly disagree with the statement—suggesting deeper skepticism or perhaps more caution from those with the longest industry experience. (See the findings: https://evansdata.com/devmarketing)

This raises an important question for companies marketing emerging technologies like quantum: How do you tailor messaging for audiences who may share the same goals but differ significantly in expectations and perceived feasibility?

Are you adapting your strategies to reflect these generational perspectives?

10/04/2025

CSP Tools Lead in Cloud Monitoring Preferences -- 41% of cloud developers say they rely on monitoring and observability tools provided by their cloud service provider.

That’s the top choice—outpacing custom-built solutions (26%), open-source tools (16%), and commercial third-party offerings (13%). In fact, less than 4% of developers report not using any observability tools in their typical cloud projects.

Why are CSP-provided tools leading the pack?

According to our latest Cloud Development Survey, seamless integration is a key driver. These native tools offer built-in compatibility with cloud infrastructure, making it easier for developers to collect and analyze performance data, manage logs and traces, and maintain compliance across the board.

While custom code remains popular—particularly among organizations with specialized needs—its lower adoption compared to CSP tools suggests that ease of use and integration may be winning out over flexibility. (See the findings: https://evansdata.com/cloud)

For vendors and solution providers supporting developers, this raises a strategic question: Are your tools and services complementing or competing with the cloud-native observability ecosystem?

Understanding how developers choose their monitoring stack is critical for staying relevant in a cloud-first world.

What’s your take—do CSP tools simplify your workflow or limit your options?

Data Isn’t Optional—Not in This Economy.

Uncertainty is the defining feature of today’s economy. Markets are volatile. Budgets are under scrutiny. And teams are being asked to do more—with less. In moments like this, instinct alone isn’t enough.

For companies, the margin for error is shrinking. Assumptions are risky. The cost of a misstep—targeting the wrong audience, investing in the wrong feature, missing a shift in behavior—has never been higher.

That’s why data isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

The good news is that it doesn’t take reams of analysis to make a difference. Often, it’s just a few clear insights that shift the conversation—helping a product team see what users actually want or guiding marketing to focus where the signal is strongest. It could be as simple as understanding which decision-makers influence purchasing, or why developers are adopting a competing platform. These kinds of truths change trajectories.

Grounding decisions in real insight isn’t just strategic—it’s stabilizing. It helps organizations stay close to their audience, anticipate change, and adapt with purpose.

More leaders are recognizing this: that in times of rapid change, data is THE competitive advantage.

How is your organization staying oriented in this economic climate?
What small insights have helped your teams make big decisions?
