This is a real-world example of what I demonstrated in my recent video re. using a second camera as a cutaway for a presentation (and why we don't do this -- the first time happens at 27 seconds). One of my followers sent this to me this morning, saying, "Now that I've seen your video where you pointed this out, I can't un-see how awkward it is." The link to my video is in the comments.

Have you ever watched an interview and thought, "something looks strange, but I can't put my finger on it"?

In this quick video (less than a minute!), Eric Wylie demonstrates the video rule that can save your 2-camera interviews.

The link to the full series -- and another important video about using two cameras -- is available in the comments.

If you're recording interview videos with two cameras, there's one simple, easy rule that keeps your 2-camera video footage looking natural and professional....

When recording one person, should you use one camera or two? It all comes down to eye contact and connection with the viewer.

In this episode of Working with a Videographer, Eric Wylie breaks down why a presenter speaking directly to the camera should be recorded with a single camera angle. (Cutting to a second angle forces the viewer's eye away from the presenter's gaze, breaking the connection that makes direct-to-camera delivery so powerful!)

But in an interview, the rules change entirely. Because the subject is already looking off-camera toward the interviewer, a second camera angle doesn't break anything; it provides visual variety and more flexibility in the edit.

Understanding this important distinction will immediately improve the quality of your video productions and the ability for your presenters to connect and communicate with viewers.

AI is changing how business videos are made, but it hasn’t changed what makes them effective.

In this episode of Working with a Videographer, Eric Wylie explains why the human element still matters in corporate video, even as AI tools become more powerful.

This video covers:

- Why audiences trust real people more than generated content

- How emotion, tone, and presence shape effective communication

- Where AI fits into video production — and where it falls short

AI is a helpful tool, but *people* are still the message.

Watch the episode to learn how to keep your business videos authentic, relatable, and impactful in the AI era.

The most effective business videos aren’t the most creative ones. They’re the most intentional.

In the newest episode of Working with a Videographer, Eric Wylie walks through how to plan business videos with purpose, clarity, and measurable impact.

If you’re responsible for planning, approving, or using business video, this episode will help you avoid the most common strategic mistakes.

A lot of teams only think about video when something urgent pops up… which usually leads to stress, rush jobs, and less impact.

So in this new episode of Working with a Videographer, I’m sharing an easier way to approach video all year long.

It’s all about building a simple, sustainable plan that helps you stay consistent, reduce the chaos, and get more value from every project.

In this short video, I walk through:
- The three main types of videos most organizations need
- How to map your content to each quarter
- Easy ways to repurpose footage so you get more out of your time and budget

If you're working on your 2026 Comms Plan, this video is for you.

Does your organization plan ahead, or does video happen mainly when something comes up? Please let me know in the comments.

I recently recorded and edited interviews with couples sharing their thoughts on financial giving.

Editing is an art I enjoy. Taking a 17-minute conversation and getting it down to less than 4 minutes while keeping the information on-topic, the conversation logical, the continuity believable (there was no b-roll for cutaways), and aiming for balanced screen time between the two interviewees can be a challenge.

This was recorded with a single camera in 4K and edited as an HD deliverable, so that the image could be cropped to frame each person individually, making the final edit look as though there were two or three cameras in use (a wide shot and two close-ups).

Of course none of the technology or methodology means anything without thoughtful, well-spoken people in front of the camera. I was fortunate that both couples I interviewed checked those boxes. - Eric Wylie

I record voiceovers almost weekly at Metro Studios. Their building number is 1350. I smile a little every time I walk through that door, because my dad talked into a microphone for many years on 1350 KRNT radio in Des Moines. It just feels like a fun connection to him, and, in a sense, a continuation of "the family business." 🎙️ - Eric Wylie
