Recent presentation at the Missouri Parks and Recreation Conference: You are Being Watched: User Surveillance of Recreation Providers: Recreation providers need to become aware of the ways in which the user is keeping an eye on the performance of agencies. With the increasing availability of tools for generating digital data, from things like TripAdvisor to tweets about recreation, a new form of surveillance has emerged where big data is being generated about agencies and agencies are evaluated, sometimes without the knowledge of the administrators and elected officials. This session focuses on the key ways in which the data is generated, the ways in which agencies can gather and analyze the data, and the actions plans that can emerge from the analysis.
