Sloan Tomlinson Printing & Photography Both amateur and professional, I seek to create a better connection between the creator and the printer. Currently the business is by appointment only.

Small Studio business specializing in Photographic Services, Archival Pigment Fine Art and Photo Printing, Illustration, Graphic Design, Photo Restoration, High Res Film and Art Scanning. After a combined eleven years working in photo labs, split between the film dominated era in the 1990s and in the digital dominated era of the last 7 years, I have learned a great deal about the business of print

ing. It has always been a dream of mine to create a photo and fine art printing and creating lab that would be designed around artists and individuals that want a more quality experience in their printing and processing lab. In the days past when photographers would work with darkrooms to print their images, there was a connection that kept them close, and made sure the artist would get what he or she needed. I have been an artist all my life and photographer for the past 17 years, this combined with the experience of working in labs has me confident that I can create that sort of connection between the artist and a fellow artist, who will make sure that the work is created to the best quality. Paleophoto is “ancient light”, it harkens to an older time, when art making and photography were not an instantaneous thing, but something that required care and consideration so that it was done right. I work out of my home studio in Hatfield and am happy to make an appointment for you to come by, or if need be, come to you for an additional charge. I am using the Epson 9900 Stylus Pro printer, an archival pigment printer capable of printing up to 44” wide by well over 100” long. I have three paper choices in stock to choose from, all are high quality and archival and have an ink fastness of 100-200 years. All papers listed are by square foot. If you are uncertain of the square footage of your print use this equation: (Width X Height ÷ 144 X paper cost, ie. A 24”x36” on Polypropylene would be 24 X 36 = 864 ÷ 144 = 6 X $7 = $42) For anything that falls less than a square foot the cost would still be the cost of a single square foot, in other words an 8x10 would still be a square foot charge.
1.Polypropylene: an extremely white and matte paper made of plastic, which makes it extremely durable and tear proof, as well as waterproof. It’s inexpensive so it’s a good choice for simple prints, as well as signage. Despite it being the cheapest of the papers, it is a high quality paper, with rich blacks and deep colors. This paper is $7 a square foot for this paper.
2. Sunset 300GSM Luster: A heavier and much richer version of the classic Epson Luster, but with even more life expectancy. This paper is ideal for photographs that are rich in color, or B&W images with a lot of tonality. This paper is $12 a square foot
3. Hahnemühle German Etching: A 310GSM Fine art paper made of 100% cotton, it has the rich feel of an etching paper. It is great for fine art prints, or prints of watercolors or other artwork. Great color from a great paper maker that has been making paper since 1584!! This paper is $15 a square foot. Although these are the only papers that I currently offer, if you are looking for something specific and will be doing a good deal of printing we can order it for you, alternatively, if you have your own paper, (as long as it’s designed for use in an Archival Pigment Printer) it would be the same cost as the Polypropylene. For scanning I use the Epson V750Pro film scanner, which can scan any size film up to 8x10 at dpi of 9600 at the maximum. Prices will vary depending on amount of negatives you wish to be scanned, how high of a resolution you want, and what kind of film it is. For specific scan charges, please contact me. Prices will vary between $1 - $10 per frame. Images can be saved as JPGs or TIFs and will placed on an archival CD or DVD. Other non-film kinds of images can also be scanned, please contact me for further information. Photo Restorations: Do you have an old family photo that is ripped and torn? I can scan it in and fix it, and print you a new one. Your original will be kept completely safe and be returned to you along with your new version; the restored image will also be included on a CD or DVD included in the price. You also have the option to remove or add things to digital photos. I have 15 years of experience with Photoshop and 13 with Wacom tablets. The restorations or corrections will vary greatly depending on the complexity of the project and how many prints you want made. Simple digital restoration (fixing bad skin on a face for example) would run around $10 an image. Complex restoration of an old photograph might run closer to $50, most everything would fall in the middle of those prices. Contact me for more precise information about this. Photography and Photoshop private tutoring is available as well, for $30-40 an hour depending on your knowledge. The business is currently in my home studio, but as it grows, with love and support from friends and clients, I would like to move into an actual store. Hopefully this will occur within a year, at which point I will also be processing film, 35, 120/220, 4x5 in C41, E6, and B&W, as well as introducing darkroom printing. If all goes as planed I will offer printing from the Chromira Pro machine, which allows for high quality digital C-Prints from 3.5x5 up to 20x30. The space would also allow for a gallery within it, which would also double as a classroom space. As a photographer myself, I work almost exclusively in film, and I want to keep it alive and I know there are plenty of you out there in the valley who would like to do the same. Please like my business and share if you can, and help spread the reality so I can make this dream into a reality and paleophoto can come to be the go to place for all things photographic! Sincerely,
Sloan Tomlinson
