Never a big fan of, nor a knowledgeable of, Georgia O'Keeffe, I walked into the sparse museum devoted to the artist and wondered (again) why has she been so treasured? Based on some literature and info plates hang throughout the exhibits, I read that she had been very progressive, if not innovative, in her art. Color, Shadows, and Architecture marks my (re)discovery of the abstract (the pure form) and departure from the subject of landscape, or people. More and more interested in designing with my camera viewer, I compose my images by carefully looking at the scene, with the camera’s eye, and search for pleasing formal relationships between the line, the color, and the shape, all “hidden” within the architecture in front of me. This project features my photography, of the Missoula's Rattlesnake Recreational & Wilderness Areas, that will be used in an upcoming release of the photo-book devoted to this beautiful and unique part of my neighborhood. Rattlesnake Recreational & Wilderness Areas is expected to be published sometime in the second part of 2020. I am already done with the winter photos. Now it is time for the fall images. This project was created in 2017, and it features letters that were selectively derived from signs displayed by the local businesses in, or outside, of their brick-and-mortar stores. My selection for each alphabet letter was dictated purely by the font’s esthetics. There were many signs photographed, only few made it to the final collection. Some letters included in the poster are of businesses that no longer exists, and did not exist at the time of taking their photo. [ 126 more words ]
