10 years in business! Itโs crazy to think that Digital Evolution Marketing is just one month away from officially hitting that milestone.
And lately I keep thinking about how different this business is from what I pictured when I first started it.
When I started, I wanted to look BIG.
I was brand new, trying to compete with marketing companies that had been around forever, and I wanted people to look at my business and think I belonged in the same room.
So I created a logo that looked the part. Very corporate. Very "digital agency." Very polished.
And I loved it at the time.
I wanted to look like one of the big dogs.
The funny thing is... somewhere along the way I realized I don't actually want to be one of the big dogs. ๐

I don't want clients going through multiple people before they can talk to the person actually doing their work.
I don't want someone sending an email and wondering whether they'll hear back tomorrow...or the day after.
I don't want clients feeling like account #47 on someone's project board.
That's just not me.
And what's kind of funny is that some of the things I probably would've considered weaknesses 10 years ago are the exact things I'm proud of now.
Yes, my business is small.
My clients know me. They talk directly to me. They have my cell number. ๐
I know their businesses. I know their history. I know what we've tried before, what worked, what didn't, what they're trying to accomplish and, in many cases, I know the people behind the business pretty darn well too.
I actually like it that way.
So when I decided to redo my branding, I wasn't trying to make Digital Evolution Marketing look bigger this time.
Quite the opposite.

There's even one little part of the new logo that probably doesn't mean anything to anyone else, but it means something to me.
The black vertical line running through the "D."
I put it there intentionally.
I think of it almost like the root of a tree โ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐

Because pretty much EVERYTHING else about this industry changes.
Web design changes. Google changes. Social media changes. SEO changes. Technology changes. And now AI is changing the way we do just about everything.
You either evolve with it or you get left behind.
But there are a few things I don't think should change.
๐ค Do good work.
๐ค Be accessible.
๐ค Build real relationships.
๐ค Care about the businesses that trust you with theirs.
Looking back now, I think I spent way too much time in those early years worrying about whether my business looked big enough. Established enough. Impressive enough.
Almost 10 years later, I really don't care about that anymore.
I'm proud of what being a small business allows me to do.
I'm proud that my clients work directly with me. I'm proud that I know their businesses inside and out. And I'm proud that after almost a decade, I'm still the person they can call or text when they need something.
So yeah... the logo changed.
But I think what really changed was my idea of what I wanted this business to be.
And this version feels a whole lot more like me.
