Why my websites start at $500...

I know valuing my work at such a low price could be career su***de. I've already been accused by local professionals as hurting the game, etc, etc.

So why do I do it?

I came here from Dallas where I was a webmaster for many years. I have been developing websites corporately and freelance for over 10 years. Number of sites completed overall is well over 100. Some for multi-million dollar businesses. So my price is certainly not cheap because of lack of skill or experience.

So why do I do it?

I moved to about 4 years ago, and started developing websites for local businesses. I was charging my Dallas rates, and while I had some success, the main thing I encountered were bootstrappin small businesses and driven entrepreneurs that really really wanted a new website, but simply could not afford my prices. That hurt. Not because I was not getting business, but because these are the people that really needed my help, but they just couldn't justify it. Unlike when I was happy to take money from greedy corporations and ad execs. Now I was taking money off people's tables. I struggled for years trying to figure out how to help these people and not starve myself (I came close a few times).

So why do I do it?

I do it, because it makes me feel good to make others feel good. I do it because I can. I do it, because now I am able to really help real people start real businesses and not feel guilty. Would I rather be charging $5,000 per site like before and driving a not piece of s**t car...yep. Do I regret doing it, nope.

So why do I do it?

I do it to make a different and hope that my goodwill will help people reach their dreams and they will tell their friends and maybe, just maybe, in the end it will be worth it financially as well.

For now I have fun meeting wide eyed entrepreneurs and giving them a professional website that will help them reach their dreams, without taking food off their tables.
