I spent the afternoon at the Tuolumne County Broadband For All Workshop. I can't wait for the digging to start! There's a lot of work to be done - planning, feedback, and actual physical work. But when finished, California will be an even better place to live, work, and learn - for ALL.

It was great to see such a wide group of residents represented too, thank you to all that worked to put the event together.

Tuolumne County faces barriers accessing the internet. Not all locations have service, and it's often expensive. Broadband For All is out to change that.

So Yelp did a thing. Their heart may be in the right place, but the implementation is the most horrific I've ever seen.

In short:

"Because businesses have enough to worry about right now, we’ll set up this fundraising opportunity for eligible businesses without requiring any action on your part. Links to a GoFundMe fundraising page will start to appear automatically today and, over the next couple of days, on the Yelp Pages of many businesses. See the frequently asked questions below for eligibility details."

Basically they're creating a GoFundMe in your business's name. Without asking. You can opt out, but in order to do that you have to claim the fraudulent account first - then cancel.

While this is kind - doing so without permission is shady at best. Accepting donations also could have tax implications for some. And some business may not need it and prefer their clients save their money or donate to an organization or business that really needs it.
