Des Moines, Iowa — [September 26, 2025] — Eden, beloved Des Moines apothecary and boutique spa is entering an exciting new chapter. Eva Anderson, an entrepreneur and design enthusiast with a global background in fashion, retail, and a passion for the arts, has officially purchased Eden from Hannah Krause.

Founded by Jen Hansen and later expanded under Hannah Krause’s leadership, Eden has become a cornerstone of Des Moines’ retail and skincare scene celebrated for its luxurious spa services, premium products, and curated selection of unique brands. Krause, who expanded Eden’s presence and grew its loyal customer base, expressed excitement about passing the torch to Anderson.

“Eden has always been about creating a space where people feel inspired, cared for, and connected,” said Hannah Krause. “I can’t wait to see how Eva brings her creativity and vision to Eden’s next chapter.”

For Anderson, acquiring Eden is about honoring its legacy while expanding its offerings. “Eden already has an incredible reputation as an apothecary and spa,” said Anderson. “My vision is to build on that foundation by introducing more lifestyle pieces, those special finds that bring beauty and joy into everyday life.”

Eden will continue offering its signature spa services and carefully curated apothecary selection while gradually introducing new lifestyle products designed to inspire beauty, comfort, and creativity.

Jasper Winery is pleased to announce the first annual Free Range Music & BBQ Festival on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The festival will feature a mouthwatering lineup of barbecue, craft brews, live music and family-friendly fun.

“This one-day festival brings together some of central Iowa’s top BBQ restaurants, local craft beer and cider, and a full day of live Americana music including headline performances by nationally touring acts Arkansauce and Cole Chaney,” said festival organizer Mason Groben.

By Degrees Foundation is pleased to announce a gift of $140,000 from Mid-Iowa Health Foundation to expand their innovative 529 Savings Account Program to all students at Harding Middle School in Des Moines. The funding helps By Degrees Foundation open 529 savings accounts for all students at Harding Middle School with a $200 seed investment into each account. Once opened, students can earn an additional $200 into their accounts annually by meeting various academic and personal milestones. This opportunity to earn will continue every year they attend Harding Middle and North High School, meaning that a Harding sixth grader could have over $1,000 in their account to use for postsecondary studies upon high school graduation.

By Degrees Foundation facilitates a unique asset-building program through which students at their partner schools can earn up to $200 annually into By Degrees-owned 529 college savings accounts by meeting various academic and personal milestones. Funds can be used upon high school graduation to pursue postsecondary education at any accredited postsecondary program, including technical and trade schools, 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities, and postgraduate degrees.

It’s not often that the Des Moines metro lands a new trend in wellness ahead of the rest of the nation, but Des Moines-based entrepreneurs Nikki and Josh Russell look to jump ahead of the rest of the country with a new wellness studio they opened in West Des Moines.

Pause Studio brings a combination of modern and holistic solutions to the metro. The couple, who also own Aptitude Fitness in Clive, opened the wellness studio to complement training recovery for athletes as well as well as offer services such as infrared saunas, LED light therapy, IV therapy, contrast therapy, cryotherapy, and naturopathic medicine, all services “designed to stack and complement one another making for a unique wellness experience.”

Taking a time-out at Pause in West Des Moines

I wouldn’t call myself a wellness ju**ie by any means, but with the new year I resolved to make a more serious effort to take care of my body after a small gym injury and some physical therapy reminded me I’m only human. So when the folks at Pause West Des Moines invited me to preview the place before last weekend’s official opening, I was excited to try a few of the services they offer to promote recovery and healing.

The boutique wellness studio was founded in California before it franchised out to a few locations down South. The new West Des Moines location is the only one in the Midwest so far. Owners Josh and Nikki Russell decided to open it when they noticed a lack of holistic recovery options around the metro.

“There were places that offered some of these things like IVs, red light therapy or saunas, but they were all separate. Pause offers them all in one place,” Josh said.

A new West Des Moines franchise markets itself as a wellness “one-stop shop,” where customers can lounge in a sauna, plunge in cold water or float and meditate inside a clamshell pod.

Driving the news: Pause expects to open next month off University Avenue in West Des Moines near Jordan Creek Parkway.
How it started: We live in an active community with lots of gyms and boutique fitness spaces, but Pause franchisees Josh and Nikki Russell want to focus on the other side of wellness — rest and recovery.

State of play: The 3,100-square-foot facility will feature one of today’s hottest trends: cold exposure. It’s touted by wellness experts, including Andrew Huberman, who say it can do everything from releasing dopamine to increasing metabolism.

Pause will offer “contrast therapy,” a room with an infrared sauna and a cold plunge bath where you go back and forth between the extremes.
It also will offer compression, cryotherapy and IV therapy.
The big picture: Spa and sauna culture have taken off in recent years as people place more emphasis on well-being.

Two Central Iowa radiologists, Dr. Andrea Lamphiear and Dr. Rachel Preisser, hope to empower women with the knowledge and tools to change that narrative.

“That’s what we want to bring to our patients: empowerment,” Preisser said. “The more you know about your health, the more choices you have, and the better your outcome is going to be.”

In August, the doctors opened Grace Breast Imaging and Medical Spa in Clive.
