You’ve read job descriptions full of glossy perks, endless growth opportunities, and benefits galore. But zero mention of late-night deadlines, grumpy clients, or mandatory overtime.
Sugarcoated job descriptions attract mismatched candidates, leading to higher turnover and frustration on both sides.
Instead, let's get real. Highlight the excitement and rewards, sure, but don't shy away from the truth. Is the job demanding? Say it. Are tight deadlines the norm? Mention it. Transparency filters out those who won't thrive under pressure and draws in candidates ready for the challenge.
(And if you’re not willing to put some of the worst parts of a job in writing, they’re probably exploitative or toxic and need to go.)
Honest job descriptions set the stage for a successful hiring process. They build trust, align expectations, and ultimately lead to happier hires.
