The AP, in partnership with KFF, polled more than 2,000 rural registered voters and found broadly negative views of the national and local economies, including among many Republicans. The costs of groceries, gas and healthcare rank as top pain points for the rural voters, who were surveyed over two weeks starting in mid-August. Sampling, data-collection, and weighting was conducted by SSRS.

KFF polling has long shown that many U.S. families struggle to afford health care and how costs shape decisions about whether and when to seek care. In the past year, worries about costs have intensified, with the cost of health care topping the public’s list of economic anxieties. Even adults with health insurance report difficulty affording health care, and many say they have health care debt. These concerns have implications for people’s access to care, health and well-being, and financial security.

Differential partisan nonresponse has driven some consequential polling errors in recent election cycles.

A new article published in the Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology assesses methods for using voter and consumer databases and small-area contextual data to measure and correct for differential partisan nonresponse.

The article was co-authored by SSRS team members Michael Jackson, Jordon Peugh, and Cameron McPhee, along with Arifah Hasanbasri, Mark J. Rozell, Scott Clement, and Emily Guskin.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, the memory of that day remains remarkably vivid for many Americans.

An analysis from Pew Research Center finds that 83% of adults who were born before 2001 say they remember exactly where they were or what they were doing when they first heard the news of the attacks.

At the same time, a new generation has learned about 9/11 through family stories and in the classroom. In fact, 10% of U.S. adults today were born after 2001 and know about the attacks only through what they have learned from others.

As we mark the 25th anniversary, these findings remind us how collective memories are preserved and passed from one generation to the next.
