🚨 SCAM ALERT: Watch Those Links! 🚨

This is the second time I’ve received one of these messages through Facebook Messenger, so I figured it was time for a quick Throm Designs scam-awareness post.

At first glance, the link might look legitimate. It has “Caseys” and “reward” right there in the address, and that is exactly what scammers are counting on.

Look closer:

caseys-rewardgift.com

That is NOT Casey’s official website.

Scammers frequently register domain names that contain the name of a real company, along with words like “reward,” “gift,” “account,” “support,” or “security.” They want the address to look believable enough that you click without giving it a second thought.

A few things to remember:

🔹 Read the actual domain name. Seeing a company’s name somewhere in the link does not mean the company owns it.

🔹 Be suspicious of unexpected rewards or gifts. If you weren’t expecting it, verify it before doing anything.

🔹 Don’t use the link in the message to investigate. Open the company’s official app or type its known website into your browser yourself.

🔹 Never enter passwords, payment information, or personal information after following a suspicious link.

🔹 If something feels off, DON’T CLICK.

These scams don’t have to fool everyone. They just have to fool enough people to make sending thousands of messages worthwhile.

Taking an extra five seconds to inspect a link can save you a much bigger headache later.

🚨 Scam Alert: Please Share to Protect Others

A local community member was recently targeted by this scam, and unfortunately, it is becoming more common.

Scammers pretend to be from a trusted company or tech support. They convince you to let them access your computer, then make it appear that they accidentally refunded you too much money. Next, they pressure you to “return” the extra funds by mailing cash, buying gift cards, wiring money, or sending cryptocurrency.

Remember:
✅ Legitimate companies will NEVER ask you to return a refund by mailing cash.
✅ They will NEVER ask you to pay them with gift cards or cryptocurrency.
✅ They will NEVER pressure you to act immediately.

If someone asks you to:
• Install remote access software.
• Log into your online banking while they are connected.
• Return an “overpayment.”
• Keep the situation secret or act urgently.

Hang up. Disconnect your computer from the internet. Call your bank and the company directly using a phone number you trust.

Please share this post, especially with parents, grandparents, and older neighbors. A simple share could prevent someone from losing thousands of dollars.

⚠️ Kansas storm season reminder from Throm Designs ⚠️

When severe weather rolls in, technology becomes more than convenience. It becomes communication, safety, and connection.

Before tomorrow’s storms:
✔ Charge phones, laptops, battery packs, and flashlights
✔ Make sure weather alerts are enabled on your phone
✔ Back up important work or files if possible
✔ Protect computers and electronics with surge protectors
✔ Test generators, hotspots, and backup internet options if you have them

Power outages, lightning, and storm damage can impact internet service, computers, networking equipment, and security systems in seconds. A little preparation tonight can save a lot of stress tomorrow.

Most importantly, stay weather aware and know your safe place.

🚨 Heads up, this is going around right now 🚨

If you get an email about a “bid proposal”…
DO NOT CLICK IT

A local church already got hit.

It looks like a normal Google login page… but it’s fake.

If you type your email and password in, they get into your account.
Yes, even if you have extra security turned on.

What to do:
• Don’t click weird email links
• If something feels off, it probably is
• Go straight to the website yourself instead of using the link
• Already clicked it? Change your password NOW

This one looks real. That’s why it’s dangerous.

If you’re not sure about something, ask. Way easier than getting hacked.

🚨 Heads up, iPhone users

There’s a new security issue going around called “Darksword” that can target iPhones. This isn’t one of those fake “you won a prize” scams; it’s more advanced than that.

Now, don’t panic. But don’t ignore it either.

👉 What actually matters:
Most people don’t get hacked because of something like this. They get caught by old software, weak passwords, or clicking the wrong thing.

👉 What you should do today:
• Check for iPhone updates and install them
• Turn on automatic updates
• Don’t click weird links, even if they look legit
• If something feels off, it probably is

Around here, I see the same thing over and over. It’s not big city hackers pulling off movie-level stuff. It’s simple mistakes that cost people time, money, and stress.

🚨 Quick PSA from Throm Designs

If you’re seeing a post telling you to copy and paste a message to stop Facebook (Meta) from using your photos or personal data, it’s a hoax.

Posting that message does nothing to change Facebook’s policies. There was no rule signed today and copying a status does not affect their terms of service.

These posts pop up every few years and spread quickly because people think they’re protecting their privacy.

The real way to protect your account:
• Check your privacy settings
• Limit who can see your posts and photos
• Be mindful of what you share online
