Fika Coffee in Lusten, Minnesota recently added food to their menu and asked me to design the printed version of it. They wanted something simple in black and white.

I think it turned out great - simple, with a dash of Fika flare.

There's no doubt about it - change can be hard. It can be freaking scary. At the same time though, it can also be incredibly good and powerful. Looking back, so many of the best things have come when a major change or pivot has happened in my life.

If there is an area or something in your life that needs to change, let it. Give yourself permission to change, to pivot, to create space for something new.

These little business cards were created for Jeweler of the North Shore this past year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Steve, the jeweler behind the brand, and his wife Cathy were such fun clients to work with. They have a beautiful gallery (JNS Gallery) located in Lutsen, Minnesota that's full of art inspired by Lake Superior's North Shore. Seeing the space come together over the past year has been so fun to watch. The have a beautiful curation of diverse and incredibly talented artists. Be sure to check out the space and Steve's work if you're ever in the area.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Do you know what I love? I love gummy bears (and worms, and butterflies, and...). In fact, I love them so much that I once ate a five pound bag of them in less than three days (which, I wouldn't recommend, by the way). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BUT, one of the things I do love more than gummies are people who want to make things happen and aren’t afraid to get out of their comfort zone to do it. People that work hard, aren't afraid to face their fears, and want to make themselves proud.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They inspire me. They make me happy. And, quite frankly, I think they make the world a better place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Lets talk about competition for a little bit… shall we?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So often when we evaluate our business, we compare ourselves to our competition. In fact, when I’m learning about my clients and their industry, I always ask about their competitors. It’s important to know what they are up to.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HOWEVER, beyond that, it can be unhealthy to obsess about what your competition is doing or what their next move is going to be. Constantly comparing your business to others is bad for your business and bad for your confidence. Doing so can hold your business back from being unique and can unknowingly guide you down the path of achieving the goals of others instead of your own.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, instead of constantly looking outward for the answer to where you should be going, begin taking note of the things that inspire YOU. Begin creating your own vision and follow your own dreams. If you do, I guarantee something beautiful will happen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Have you heard the word "kerning" before? If not, don't worry. You're not alone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what exactly is kerning and why does it matter? Kerning is the space between individual letters. Fonts that are well kerned have equal PERCEIVED space between each letter. In other words, it LOOKS like the same amount of space falls between each letter even if the literal space between each letter varies. When you look at well kerned copy, it will just look and feel right.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Typically, the software you use, whether it be Microsoft Word or a design program like Adobe Illustrator, will automatically kern letters for you. Sometimes this works out, and sometimes it doesn’t. A good designer knows about spacial relationships between letters (for example, the letter “O” has more perceived space than the letter “I” does, so manual space will often need to be added around the letter “I” but rarely around the letter “O”) and will manually adjust the kerning for you when designing important elements like your logo or tagline.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The last couple of days have been productive ones for me. I've learned a lot about myself, and more than that, have checked a lot of important and undesirable tasks off my to do list. It feels good.

HOWEVER, today my motivation is hanging out somewhere else (China? South Africa? Luxemburg?) and I needed this reminder. Since there's a small chance you might need it too, I'll leave it right here.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN schedule Instagram posts in advance. No, I'm not talking about using an app that REMINDS you to post your post or story later...I really mean you can create your post in advance, schedule it and have it automatically posted for you by using Facebook's Creator Studio.

While I'm not an expert in it, it is a tool I wish so many of my fellow biz owners knew about. It has come in handy so many times for me and I hope it can for others as well. All you need to do is connect your Facebook and Instagram accounts to the app and start posting/scheduling.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a version of the app available for mobile devices (if you are reading this and are aware of one, please DM me or drop a comment below), so you'll have to use a desktop. Also, please share with anyone else that might find this info useful.
