Let’s talk about one of the best lighting set ups that you already have. It’s called “Open Shade”. Ever heard of it?

Open shade means your subject is standing in the shade so that direct sunlight is not hitting them, but they are ~looking out of the shade~ toward the open sky. This is best accomplished on a bright day 🌞

For example, Jackie here is standing just inside the open door of Stellina, which allows her to stand out from the shadowy interior.

This is much more flattering than harsh, direct sunlight, and can be found anywhere! So next time you’re taking a photo or video, give this technique a shot 📷

Are beverages one of the primary products you photograph for your business? There are a few tricks that can make your post stand out:

1️⃣ Always opt for natural light if it’s available. This will make the natural colors of the drink pop.

2️⃣ When photographing beer, make sure to refresh the foam. You can do this by topping it off, or taking a straw and giving it a swirl. Don’t be afraid of a little spillage!

3️⃣ Make the photo more dynamic by having a customer or employee hold the glass. This is much more interesting than a picture of a lone beer.

4️⃣ If you don’t have a hand model, use some props! Notes of orange in the flavor profile? Grab some orange slices and get creative 🍊

5️⃣ Last but not least, try video. This is one of the most simple yet effective ways to sell a product, and almost everyone has the technology right in their pocket. Faces perform the highest in terms of engagement, so hold up that beer and tell us why we should try it 🍺
