"You can expect more than a good meal at the Wayside Restaurant" according to Seven Days in this Nov 28, 2023 article. "It's like they bake nostalgia into every dish." says Jessie Price. It continues to be a pleasure to work with the great folks at the Wayside to promote their 105 years of service to the Central Vermont conmunity!

Earlier this fall, my husband and I loaded up our 2-year-old twins in our farm truck to buy transom windows off an old maple sugar...

Its time to finally come out of the woodwork and wish everyone a very happy and delicious Thanksgiving! 🥧🦃 It's hard to find the time to keep up with my own social media, so apologies for the silence.

As we all count our many blessings my wonderful clients are high on that list. I would like to thank Keeler's Bay Variety - KBV in South Hero, the infamous Wayside Restaurant and several others, for making this a more prosperous year after the 2 deadbeat covid ones when Vermont Tourism industry was severely affected. And now its been hit again, along with so many other parts of this country--despite the many years of warnings by visionaries and climate activists Bill McKibben and Jim Antal, who have been trying to educate us on this for years. May we choose to finally listen and to work together to move towards "fixing" the climate problems we must face. And to do it with gratitude for the opportunity to hopefully turn things around for the better, and to do it with love.

I am also very grateful for my wonderful partner Paul, and for the beyond-inspiring trip we took to Banff and Jasper National Parks for 2 weeks of hiking and jaw-dropping scenery in late September. This picture was taken at exquisite Lake Louise- a trip that had been on my bucket list since I was a little girl and saw a picture of it in grandmothers album.

May Peace be with you and the rest of the world on this special day of giving thanks!

Sad news, Vermont has lost not only its second Cartoonist Laureate and acclaimed New Yorker cartoonist, but a wise and beloved man whose humor and wit have entertained the world for over 60 years; while bringing awareness to important issues through his fuzzy and brave humanoid creatures, characteristic of Edward Koren's work. Pam Knights Communications had the distinct honor of promoting Ed's last and final book, "Koren. In the Wild" published in 2018 by Margot Mayor of Button Street Press. Ed Koren was an amazing human being who will be sorely missed by his family and friends, by Vermonters especially in his hometown of Brookfield, the New Yorker community, and his fans all over the world. May he rest in peace. My sincerest condolances go out to his wife Curtis Ingham Koren and family.

The Brookfield resident was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020 but continued to draw until his final days.

I have been so swamped with work lately I've been remiss in posting... But wanted to announce the completion of the Wayside Restaurant's new website!! It was great working with Brian and Karen Galfetti Zecchinelli to express the Wayside's incredible story over the past 104 years! It is a beloved and historic Vermont icon that continues to serve "Yankee Cooking at its Best", with a commitment to purchasing locally and to sustainable restaurant practices. Hats off to the Wayside!

Another level of Yum! Nationally recognized Wayside Restaurant is a must-eat for locals & travelers. Hearty Yankee Fare. Serving breakfast all day and lunch, dinner.

After enjoying a bowl of greek yogurt with Sweet Retreat Guest House and Sugarworks' Pure VT Gold maple syrup produced in Northfield (pictured below), I thought I'd better give a shout-out for the annual VT Maple Sugaring Weekend, and gratitude for the ideal sugarmaking temperatures we've been having! Be sure to mark your calendars with the St Albans Vermont Maple Festival April 26-30. I can remember seeing the amazing and beautiful Budweiser Clydesdales there when I was at UVM. Still a vivid memory!

An interesting and important forum on making VT agriculture accessible and "affordable" for next generation farmers.

Our next Small Farm Action Day focuses on "Youth, Land Access & Housing" because getting the next generation farming shouldn't be a matter of intergenerational wealth, privilege and capital! Share your devotion and struggle with lawmakers, what it takes to afford farming, to transition or revitalize farms, to repurpose vacation homes into farms, to evolve collective models and to feed local communities. Or just come to learn and listen. All are welcome. Register today:

Dont' miss Rural Vermont's next episode of Vermont Wild Kitchen: Trout, Maple & Apple Cider! Join virtually on Thursday, March 9, 5-6PM via a live stream on Facebook or Youtube. March's featured chefs are Meghan Hill of the Lakechamplain Maritimemuseum and Ryan Yoder of Yoder Farm in Danby, producers of apple cider vinegar. They'll be cooking up a hearty rainbow trout dish served alongside a marinated kale salad dressed "Vermont-style" with maple, apple cider vinegar, and garlic. Sounds delish!

Another well deserved endorsement for Pioneer Lakeshore Cafe for some of the best home cooked food in Vermont by Only In Your State! Kudos to Chef Jean-Luc Matecat and his wife and front of the house manager Lindsay Taylor Matecat. As you may be able to tell I'm very proud of my wonderful son and his wife!

This cafeteria-style restaurant in Vermont serves hearty home made food that'll delight everyone in your family.

I'll second Melissa Pasanen's recommendation to dine at my wonderful son Chef Jean-Luc Matecat and daughter-in-law Lindsay Taylor Matecat's great little restaurant Pioneer Lakeshore Cafe in Colchester per Melissa's Seven Days article. It's definitely worth a visit!

I recently discovered "Small Bites", an e-newsletter put out by friend and colleague Annie Harlow through the Vermont Farm to Plate program. It is absolutely packed with current Vermont food industry insights, local business highlights, and resources. I would highly recommend it!!

Small Bites is geared to grocers, farmers & food manufacturers, distributors & retail-farm stands. Insights on distribution & business to business resource sharing helps expand the sale of VT products. Join the network for free at https://www.vtfarmtoplate.com/ & share your insights & input too.

Farm to Plate is Vermont's food system plan being implemented statewide to increase economic development and jobs in the farm and food sector, improve soils, water, and resiliency of the working landscape in the face of climate change, and improve access to healthy local foods for all Vermonters.
