In preparation for the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party being hosted for the children who live at the Child Crisis Center of El Paso, we were given a tour of the Center. As we walked around each room, we began to see many opportunities for individuals, organizations, and businesses to donate items, give financially, or volunteer their time or services.

The Child Crisis Center of El Paso is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit emergency shelter for children ages newborn to 13 who are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, or suffering from a family crisis. While living at the Center, the children receive nutritious food, clean clothing, appropriate health care, and sleep in a warm comfortable bed. Every effort is made to keep children occupied so that they do not reflect on the crisis and trauma that has led them to the Center.

One of the ways that you can partner with the Child Crisis Center of El Paso is by donating items. One of the most needed items is individual pre-packaged snacks. Other frequently used items needed are listed on their page under Home then "Our Wish List." https://www.facebook.com/childcrisiselp

Volunteering is another important way that you can partner with the Center. Volunteers are needed to help children directly by serving as tutors to assist the children with their homework and studying, administrative duties, including answering phones; providing services to the community, and special events and fundraisers.

In addition to the regular volunteer program, the Child Crisis Center is in need of skilled professional volunteers, such as hairstylists to cut the children’s hair; plumbing, HVAC, and construction services for repairs and upgrades; cleaning services, as well as other skills and services that can be donated to the Center.

One of my all time favorite actors, Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. Sad news for the his family and friends who knew and loved him and his many fans around the world. He died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas surrounded by his family including his son Jason Connery.

I loved watching him as the first actor to bring James Bond 007 to the big screen, his role as Indiana Jones’ dad, The Hunt for Red October and so many more. All of his James Bond movies were produced and released before I was born, yet his acting had the ability to capture my heart and the hearts of multiple generations.

Over the years, I read Roger Moore describe Sean Connery as the best James Bond ever. From. Dr. No, to Goldfinger to From Russia with Love, You Only Live Twice, Thunderball, and Diamonds are Forever to Never Say Never Again, he forever made me a James Bond 007 and Sean Connery fan.

As it is, I love the Indiana Jones adventure movies, but when he spoke I was focused on every word he said. Now that I’m writing this, I’m realizing that’s how I feel about all of his acting. He was a truly gifted actor that had the audience hang on to his every word not only because he was intriguing but because he was so admired and respected.

The world is going to miss you Sean Connery. I’ll always think of you when I see vintage convertible cars online like the blue Sunbeam Alpine and wish I would see cars like that driving around the freeway today. I’ll always think of you when I see Bond-like wardrobe. After all, you set the fashion look for all future James Bonds. Although I’ve never been there, Jamaica will always remind me of you. When I’ve posed for pictures holding my hand as a pretend gun, I wasn’t pretending to be a Charlie’s Angel, I was pretending to be you, James Bond. I’ll always hear your voice in my head as I say the line, “James, James Bond.”

Your intellectual seriousness not only lent to your amazing acting in James Bond movies but was exactly what Indiana Jones needed and you gave them.

Thank you, Sean Connery for devoting your life to acting from Shakespeare in theatre to the big screen. You will forever be loved and missed. I’m grateful that we’ll always be able to look back at the treasures you left the world in the countless movies so many us love and future generations will come to love.
