Early spring hikes don’t always look the way you expect—and that’s part of the story.
We mapped a walk starting right from the Freeman House in River Falls, following the river as it shakes off winter. Right now, the water runs a little high and a little cloudy, the landscape still waking up from the cold.
But not everything is quiet.
Halfway along the trail, we spotted a massive snapping turtle posted up near the bank—one of those moments that reminds you spring is already in motion, even if the trees haven’t caught up yet.
I
n a few weeks, this same route will be completely different: greener, clearer, and full of movement.
That’s why we’re starting to document these routes now.
