Zine: Results-Driven Marketing, Beautifully Designed Direct Response Marketing and Design for Print If you are an attorney or professional who wants more clients and more cases, do you know where to start?

Maybe you’re copying what other successful people are doing, or following all the latest marketing trends. Or maybe you’ve heard yesterday’s strategies don’t work in today’s high-tech world. Let me get straight to the point, only results matter. Who am I? I am a direct-response marketing expert, founder of a successful marketing, design, and printing company called Zine Graphics & Print. I help at

torneys and business owners get results with direct response marketing campaigns from concept to design to implementation. Direct response marketing includes newsletters, books, reports, sales letters, flyers, postcards, lead generation funnels, shock and awe packages and more. Back in 2004 when we opened our doors, we did the same marketing that everyone else was doing and getting nowhere quickly. Deep inside, I knew there had to be another way. Four years later, I found “the better way” and began the journey to turn this business around. This turn-around resulted in a transformation that brought us to place where I can now help other attorneys and professionals who don’t have big marketing departments or fancy marketing plans, but want to implement precise, results-driven marketing that brings in more customers and real positive revenue. At Zine Graphics, we not only understand the big picture of what effective marketing is about, but we know how to translate these marketing ideas and principles into solid, executable marketing campaigns. It’s NOT common sense, and it’s NOT popular opinion. Today, I help countless attorneys and entrepreneurs like Dan Kennedy, Ben Glass, and Roxanne Emmerich design and implement marketing that gets results. If you’d like to know learn more about effective marketing for your business or law firm, request a copy of my popular book: The Top Ten Biggest Mistakes Business Owners Make In Their Marketing and see how you compare.

Your Girlfriend Needs a Divorce...

About a year ago, I met a young woman who was going through a difficult divorce. She had a small child, she was afraid and emotionally devastated.

The injustice of what she was dealing with broke my heart.

Then she showed me the divorce settlement she was about to sign. And my heartbreak turned to anger. It stripped off all of her rights and sent her away with peanuts.

Somehow, I found the audacity to tell this new friend who barely knew me not to sign it. I explained to her that regardless of how she felt about the situation, the law gave her rights that she was entitled to. And that I would be there to help her through it.

And thus, that’s how I connected with Virginia Beach family law attorney, Katie Wilcox Carter.

I talk about that story and more with Katie in the newest episode of The Results-Driven Life by Design Podcast.

It was an incredible discussion.

We talk about law firm marketing, branding, social media, culture, gender dynamics and more. And also her journey in doing work that is truly driven by purpose and passion.

Katie is a living proof that everyone has a message that the world needs to hear. I’m grateful she found her voice and found the courage to put it out there. It was exactly what I needed for MY girlfriend to be able to help her and her child.

I have no doubt there are countless other women and families who need to hear it as well.

Take a listen and be inspired to find your voice and keep pursuing your unique message to your world.

New podcast episode drop!!

In this special solo episode of the Results-Driven Life by Design podcast, I recap the panel discussion on Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership, presented at Ben Glass's and Brian M. Glass's Great Legal Marketing LLC Summit in Phoenix. Take a listen and hear the ideas we discussed such as:

- How to balance masculine (achievement-oriented) and feminine (intuitive, reflective) energies and why it is crucial for sustainable leadership.

- Why authentic femininity is valuable in business, challenging the "do it all" narrative.

- Why self-identity and inner strength are foundational for women's success in entrepreneurship.

- How continuous learning and action-taking build confidence and skills necessary for women leaders.

Incredibly grateful to Lee Milteer and Kendelle Pollitt for their invaluable input and their presence.

This is a conversation that needs to continue, but we need more voices. Your comments and questions are welcome...from women AND men. 🙏🏻

In this week’s Over-the-Hustle message, I'm sharing my top three take-aways from attending and speaking at the Great Legal Marketing LLC conference hosted by Ben Glass and Brian M. Glass in Phoenix, Arizona...

1 - Live events are 20% new ideas, 80% relationships. It’s the people you meet and connect (or reconnect) with that create the biggest breakthroughs.

2 - People have greatness they don’t realize. I asked one digital marketing agency (out of the many that were there) what made them different. He didn’t have an answer. But during his presentation on stage, his style and message were brilliant and clearly unique. It is a truth I see over and over again…our greatness, our superpower, feels so natural to us, we fail to see it and value it.

3 - High achieving women may look put together on the outside, but on the inside, they feel like they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.

That last takeaway came from the panel discussion I hosted on Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership. I asked the room to raise their hands if they felt like stressed out and burnt out.

Almost everyone raised their hands.

For women...for anyone...that’s not a sustainable way to be. And there is an answer that goes beyond simply practicing stress management.

A full recap of the panel discussion is coming in the next episode of the Results-Driven Life by Design podcast.

Thank you Lee Milteer and Kendelle Pollitt for joining the panel. Your insight and energy were invaluable.

Meanwhile, here is what I am loving, learning, and doing this week:

Loving…being back home and in my own bed after a long week of travel. Creating an intentional space where you can remember who you are and why you exist is a requirement for most of you reading this.

Learning…how to level up my podcast for better sound and video quality. May the favor of the tech gods be upon me.

Doing…book content strategy for would-be authors. If you have thinking about writing a book, I can pull that greatness out of you, help you organize it, and put it in a book. DM me for more details.

Behind the scenes of RAPID entrepreneurial growth...

Most of you know Charley Mann. I personally met Charley over 13 years ago when he was just starting out as a video marketing specialist with Ben Glass Law.

Last year, he launched his company Law Firm Alchemy, where he helps entrepreneurial law firm owners push past limits to scale their practices and their lives.

In that short year, he surpassed his 12-month goals beyond his wildest imagination.

Why?

Because he lives by what he teaches.

Charley is a prolific marketer. He has a robust LinkedIn presence. His posts are engaging, informative, and transparent.

He emails his followers regularly with interesting personal emails.

He has created a unique brand voice, he has a strong brand presence, he sends a print newsletter, he has a mastermind, he has a beautiful family, he has unique hobbies.

He is a perfect picture of what young, entrepreneurial growth and success looks like.

However, behind the scenes is not always perfect.

In the latest episode of the Results-Driven Life by Design podcast, Charley shares the reality of his entrepreneurial journey and insights on overcoming his biggest challenges and living with purpose.

Listen as we discuss:
- The importance of identity and making decisions aligned with who you want to be
- How movement and physical activity are key tools for managing stress and maintaining wellbeing
- Why curiosity and "obsessive" deep learning are valuable and necessary traits for entrepreneurs and business owners
- Why balancing multiple priorities (family, business, health) remains an ongoing challenge for entrepreneurs.
- And more…

"I need your help with something, and I don't want any lip about it." (part 2)

Last week, I wrote how in order to get help with technology from your gen z kids, you have to assert your dominance. Don’t let that ever-widening-at-blazing-speeds generational gap intimidate you.

Everyone will need to forge their own path to navigating this phenomenon. But here is what I’m doing...it may not close the generational gap, but it keeps me planted and growing in my space-time continuum, and invites these young’uns to join the party or move on along with their earbuds in their heads and their heads in their devices.

It’s this:

Do what you know, in the way that you know. Go deeper in the skills, talents, and abilities you have cultivated and don’t be distracted by the “new and shiny” of today.

In other words, have conviction about what you, who you do it for, and why you do it. And you'll find the people you are meant to serve… from any generation… will be naturally attracted to you.

Fer'examples…

Business law attorney, Ed Alexander who does excellent work in helping lawyers sell or exit their law firms, needed to break through the “I do contracts and legal agreements” marketing message. In the Brand Discovery, we dug down to what he really achieves for his clients. It was this: he helps them enjoy their life and their business. It’s what he himself has been doing his entire life. Now he captures that message in every issue of his print newsletter with pictures of his travels, his family, and his hobbies, as well as his success with his clients.

Then there is Zine client, John Crosby (Katy, TX), who has grown a successful commercial window treatment business. He recently completed a Brand Discovery Intensive where we discovered his passion is land stewardship…working on his property, taking care of the land, getting his hands in the dirt. The marketing plan we created incorporates this passion so he could expand the space where he talks about it, does more of it, and invites others to join him in whatever way it connects to them. I have a feeling he will be surprised at how many people this will resonate with.

And finally personal injury attorney, Mason West (Moncks Corner, SC), who also completed the Brand Discovery Intensive. I was a little shocked when, without blinking, he told me his passion was to build a sports complex for youth. I shouldn't have been shocked though…that passion aligned perfectly with the new brand message we were creating for his law practice: providing life long support for injured clients through community.

Getting clarity about your purpose and your work. It will keep you focused on what matters, and make you magnetic to those you want to do life with.

Meanwhile, this week in Over The Hustle...

Loving: 15-30 minutes of Pilates every morning, first thing, still in my pajamas. I tried to skip it this morning to deal with other things, but somehow still ended up on my mat.

Learning: Dusting off my Farsi reading and writing skills. I love you, Google Translate.

Doing: Actually what I am NOT doing is cleaning my house. My cleaning lady is here today. I love her. Getting professional house cleaning is the BEST decision, BEST investment, BEST self-care, BEST everything ever. 'Cuz I gots better things to do.

"I need your help, and I don't want any lip about it." (part 1)

That’s how I asked my Gen Z daughter to help me with some Instagram posts I needed to do. The generational gap is big enough now where me asking my kids for help with technology can get the Don’t-Be-Such-a-Zoomer treatment.

I taught her how to p**p in a toilet. She can teach me how to post my video.

Is it just me, though? Or is that generational gap getting bigger and bigger at speeds way faster than previous generations?

It’s interesting and makes for good stories when navigating it with my kids, but trying to navigate it in my marketing is ho’ different game.

From the technology to the messaging to the lingo and the difference in values and culture, it feels like everyday I wake up on a different planet.

I don’t propose to have the answers to this phenomenon. But there is something I’m doing about it.

It may not close the generational gap, but it could help you feel much more comfortable on your side of the divide and shut the chatter on the other side.

To be continued in part 2.

Meanwhile, this week in Over The Hustle...

Loving: Getting back to recording short teaching videos in Farsi about faith, spirituality, God, the scriptures, and more...and posting them on YT.

Learning: To do social media marketing using LinkedIn, FB and IG. I’m a print girl by nature, but this has been fun.

Doing: We just completed a 12-page whopper newsletter issue exclusively for Great Legal Marketing Summit attendees in Phoenix in October. It’s hitting the presses now. The GLM Summit team has offered a special discounted registration for my readers, subscribers and friends (www.glmsummit.com/register-last-call). I've gone to this event every year for over a decade and get so much out of them, even though I am not an attorney. If you're even a little curious, just pull the trigger and come.
