Day 7! I’ve been taking pictures since I could hold a camera. Growing up with dogs they were often a main photo subject. Into my 20s when taking dog pictures were part of my job. Once we got Tibbie, she became part of my outdoors photos as she’s traveled with us on adventures. So I chose one of her for today’s photo. I had a hard time choosing because I have about 30 photos from our stay at Muskegon State Park that I love, so you’ll probably see a few more throughout my month of posting. 😊
(P.S. She’s on leash in this photo. Since it looks like she might not be, want to note she’s always on leash because we take that seriously.)

Day 6! This one is from our drive back from our honeymoon in the U.P. My favorite part about is that it’s behind a gas station along a highway in Baraga. I’ve always loved how it embodies the idea of finding beauty around you. How on that drive I was a little sad about leaving the natural splendor of the wilderness we’d been able to appreciate. The reminder that it doesn’t matter where we are, it’s where we look to find joyful moments. To find peace in nature even in passing and remember what was here before us. ♥️✨

Location: Baraga, Michigan

Day 5! 📸 I’m obviously entranced by many sights outdoors and there’s always something about reflections. It’s like getting multiple perspectives of what’s in front of you and around you. Multiple pictures in one, perhaps two sides of the same reality. This chain of lakes; Barton, Tub, Black, and Howard in Schoolcraft showed off all kinds of views the first time we paddled them, including this one. My husband thinks it looks like a watercolor painting. What do you see in it?

Day 4! Celebrating my birth month with my favorite photos. ✨
Deep Lake at Yankee Springs is a special place for me and my husband. It’s the first place we went camping together and the photo above is from a return trip where he proposed. 💍
This view is from just behind our favorite site, looking out over the drive back to the fishing pier and boat launch on Deep Lake. I have a lot of images from that campground I love. Including another print on canvas. (I’ll print my photos on anything at this point 😂). I could have posted probably 10 at least but this is one I always stop on when looking back. There’s so much magic in the ones from this weekend in particular I could post them all. But it’s photo a day so I had to pick. 😊 Enjoy the view!

Day 3 Photo a Day (for my birth month)!
If you know me or read half my captions, I’m a huge admirer of sunsets and sunrises. No matter where I am, I try to watch the sun start the day and end it. Pair it with water and I’ll watch the sun create watercolors on a puddle.
This is just a small lake, Hogset, connected to another in Schoolcraft/Portage. Tucked back behind dense woods on a dirt two track. (You can reach the connecting lake via a park.)
The sun always hits this place just right. This day gave me views even I was surprised to see when looking back at captures. When my photos look potentially fake, those are almost my favorites. Because I know how real they are.
Similar to my first day photo, I also have an image from this day printed, not as a wall hanging but for our shower curtain.
In my top favorite images, every single one from this morning is on the list. ☀️ ♥️ 🌅

Day 2 of sharing my favorite photos over the years in honor of my birthday month.
I don’t limit what I photograph. Anything from family photos to the outdoors. I mostly use my iPhone in Raw or my archaic DSLR, and Lightroom is my editing software.
But I don’t edit to add anything not there or take anything away. I adjust color to bring out what’s already there. I make sure the lighting lets the beauty out. What I intend to show is what’s there if you take time to take in the view.
This is a simple pull off along the Lake Huron shore where the Ocqueoc River meets up and waters mingle. Literally just one platform, some stairs and a parking lot. This has always been one of the images that even I saw more of when I did my first photographer look back at that batch of photos. Far more magic than a simple glance might give. A reminder that the truest beauty isn’t meant to be seen with a glance.

It’s my birthday month! In honor of that and because new sights won’t be likely this month, I’m going to the archives. Sharing one photo a day; favorites from Michigan travels over time. My first pic is from what will remain my favorite place to go so far. Our experience in Keweenaw is unbeatable. I don’t know if we’d have had the chance if we hadn’t stumbled across AirBnB. This view of what we deemed Spider Beach is actually printed on a wall tapestry in our home. My soul really belongs in a place like the life we lived that week along the Superior coastline. 😍♥️
