International travel season is here, and a little preparation can go a long way. ✈️

Whether you're planning a summer getaway, embarking on a bucket-list adventure, or creating content to help others travel confidently, having reliable information before you go can make all the difference.

Here are 5 international travel tips from to keep in mind before your next trip abroad:

1. Make sure your passport is travel-ready 🛂
Many countries require at least six months of validity remaining on your passport for entry. If yours is expiring soon, check renewal requirements before you book.

2. Be aware of local laws ⚠️
Just because something is legal at home doesn't mean it's legal at your destination. Research local laws and restrictions, including medications and prohibited items, before you travel.

3. Review the current Travel Advisory 🌍
Travel conditions can change. Check the latest Travel Advisory level, entry requirements, and destination-specific information before your departure.

4. Sign up for STEP ✅
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service that provides safety updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate and helps officials contact you in an emergency.

5. Check your health insurance coverage 🏥
Many U.S. health insurance plans don't cover medical care abroad. Review your coverage before you travel and consider whether additional travel insurance may be right for your trip.

In our latest Bessie Awards finalist spotlight, Trailblazer finalist Rachel-Jean Firchau () shares how burnout, curiosity, and a love of travel inspired her to redefine what work-life balance could look like.

She also opens up about responsible tourism, overtourism, and why creators have a responsibility to tell more nuanced stories about the places we visit.
