Today marks the beginning of Freedom Month in South Africa, a time to reflect on the country’s transition to democracy in 1994 and the meaning of freedom in our lives today.
Nelson Mandela’s words, and the choices he made, remind us that freedom is not only personal, but collective. That our own liberation is bound up in the liberation of others.
As we reflect this month, we are called to consider what freedom means today, and what it demands of us in building a more just and equal society.
