I am not in the business of PR Crisis Management. But there is every bit of use for it. Especially when you are running a business, holding a position in the public/political sector (not limited to city councils, legislation etc.), are an entertainer - so on and so forth.
A question always presented is the use of a personal page versus a “business” page.
Depending on the business and the goal is where my recommendations will lie. That said, if you plan at any point to be a public figure or dabble in the political realm: download your personal profile data now AND delete or lock it down.
Then hire someone who will have full control of your social media world. You can still have administrative access but preference is for you to allow for someone else to mediate and review what you are posting. If previous incidents held by public officials aren’t dead giveaways for this, I’ll drop this link for further example: https://alaskawatchman.com/2021/10/04/report-4-palmer-city-council-members-likely-violated-open-meetings-law-recall-effort-ensues/?fbclid=IwAR3oQ5L5MTSv8_xyqw3neoDuPzPzclImvOly9diupGdIh0aKruf1IDllBqs
That said. People will deem this a witch hunt. And trust me, I see both aspects as these are actual humans with families and feelings. Furthermore we are being given little bit size snippets from select media sources for us to use CRITICAL THINKING and come to our own conclusion.
Problem is, these things are easily avoidable.
Watching instagram right now a storm is a brewing with legalities of giveaways and influencers disclosing advertising and affiliate relationships with brands.
That too is AVOIDABLE.
The legal information is out there placed on unbiased websites for each person to educate themselves on. From influencers to political figures, the rules you follow are there for you to be informed about appropriate actions especially in a digital world. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE…
There are companies and people for you to hire that will make sure you are running a legal, non-controversial and productive social media presence. Don’t wait for a disaster to happen - prevent it and protect your reputation and your name. Don’t waste time building a brand for it to be brought down by I’ll informed missteps online.
