The nickel version of my story is plain and simple. I grew up on a farm in SW Ohio… grew up with a father who made lists, worked hard, and was always doing a project on the farm and in the shop… a shop where there was a welder, a grinder, a torch and lots of wood working tools. So besides building fence, baling hay, working ground, planting crops, and chasing escaped cattle, my dad along the way t
aught me how to operate and respect a table saw but not be afraid of it. Over the years he did that with all the power tools in the shop. The result of that apprenticeship is that I've worked with steel and wood nearly all my life. While being a Project Manager for a large non-profit organization, I practice my creative bent and craft everyday as I have for the past 40 years. I started building these desks specifically when I was the one who needed one. Then my favorite daughter asked for one for her home office and then another one for her kitchen. Wouldn't you know, my other favorite daughter wanted one and then a year later asked me to build one for her husband's new office. Well...then my favorite son got in on it. He witnessed all this desk building going on, and it being close to Christmas, and him dating this sharp young lady, he needed a serious gift. So he asked if I could help him build one for her. Well I did, and he did, and she loved it, and so did her mother who, as it turns out is an interior designer who contacted me to say, "That desk is an incredibly unique piece of furniture. You really should consider marketing them". Along the way I made my son Jake a partner in this venture. He is a very creative designer and a pretty darn good welder.
