Remember, your website is made for human beings. And typically, human beings aren't going to study every website they visit in great detail. If they have to read your entire web page in-depth to get the information they want, they will likely look elsewhere.
So, don't just clutter your web page with words and information. Instead, think big picture and consider some of these questions:
- What's the goal of your website?
- How does each page lead to that goal?
- How long does it take for a visitor to find key information on each page? It should take less than a minute.
If your key information is difficult to find, consider:
- adding clearer headings
- bullet-pointing main ideas
- incorporating visuals to break down ideas
- revising your writing to be more concise
- reordering information (the most important thing should be at the top)
As we mentioned in our previous myth post: your design should tell a story. Written content is an essential part of that story. Having concise, well-written content can make all the difference.
