Things are heavy right now, and for many of us, it’s really difficult to know how to navigate it. I don’t have all the answers, but I hope I can provide some reassurance to help you move forward.

*This might sound strange coming from a digital marketer, but social media isn’t real life—it’s just one small sliver of it. You can show up in many ways beyond what you post online, through community support, civic engagement, or advocating in other ways for causes you care about.

Diversity makes us great. Liberty and justice for ALL.

Building momentum takes time, repetition, and patience—especially when you’re doing it alongside everything else.

Progress usually looks quieter (and slower) than social media makes it seem. That’s perfectly normal. Persistence and consistency are your friends.

What are your resolutions for your business in 2026?

I'm a big fan of New Year's resolutions. I see them as an opportunity to reflect and course-correct, and I try to keep mine positive, realistic, and focused on making my work AND life better in the long run.

So what are your resolutions for your business in 2026? Are you going to streamline your offerings to do more of what brings you joy? Set aside regular time for the admin tasks you keep putting off? Bring on a staff member or contractor? Learn a new skill? Strive for more balance?

One of mine: I want to start offering group workshops and short intensives to help small business owners tackle their marketing challenges without having to make a huge investment or commitment.

I’d love to hear yours! Drop your 2026 business resolution in the comments.

It’s not always easy to keep up with your marketing efforts, especially during the holidays. Here’s an easy trick when you have a little downtime from wrapping presents, baking cookies, or doomscrolling to avoid your holiday responsibilities—it’s called the 5-3-1 rule. From your business profile, engage with other relevant accounts with this simple formula: like 5 posts, comment on 3 posts, and follow 1 new account.

Try to make this a daily habit, or at least a few times a week. We often get focused on posting, but social media platforms reward those who engage. It pays to be social!

Start now, and you’ll go into 2026 with some great momentum. Happy holidays!

Yes, I know it has 4 letters, but it’s not a 4-letter word in THAT sense. It’s not offensive, even if not everyone is a fan.

Planning, even casually, is essential to marketing success. You need to know the goal you’re trying to reach and how you’re going to get there, or it’s too easy to get off track.

It’s that time… even amidst the holiday chaos, it’s worth taking a moment to think about your 2026 plan. Even if it’s just musing on it while you wrap presents, getting started now makes all the difference.

I just wrapped a planning session with a client who has big growth ahead for 2026, fueled by this dreamy chai latte from @‌TheNewGeneral.

Follow for marketing planning tips made for real small-business owners with real lives and get 2026 started right.

Maybe that post didn’t hit because it didn’t resonate with your audience. Or MAYBE the weather, a major news story, a tweak in the algorithm, or Mercury in retrograde* prevented your audience from even seeing it. Make decisions based on trends, not individual efforts.

*I am not actually qualified to tell you if Mercury is in retrograde or how that will impact your business, but if you need help analyzing your marketing metrics, reach out. I offer flexible support options to help you get your marketing on the right track.

There isn’t one right way to do your marketing planning, especially when you’re a solopreneur or a lean team. Your system can be whatever you want it to be—yes, even a messy arrangement of scribbled-on Post-its.

I don’t necessarily recommend that method, though this pic IS a genuine peek at how I sometimes work. Those Post-its serve an important purpose for me that you should consider for your own system: how do you capture moments of inspiration? How do you make sure you revisit them when you need them?

Post-its work for me because they are an easy grab and a visible reminder, which I later add to my actual planning calendar/project management tool.

What’s your system? Do you have any tips or tricks that could help other small business owners?

Things happen. And as we enter “the most wonderful time of the year,” things happen A LOT. Give yourself a little gift and have a few social posts in your back pocket for when things get crazy.

Doing your creating and planning in batches is ALWAYS a good idea, but it pays off even more when life gets busy.

If you’re struggling with planning or posting, reach out! I offer strategy sessions to get you on the right foot, as well as marketing services packages if you need more support.

I’ve spent the last week or so sourcing images for a project that’s launching soon, and it’s been so much fun. I’m floored by what I was able to find! This colorful, chaotic little mix is just a small preview.

In most cases, you want to use real, authentic photos for your brand—but sometimes a project calls for stock images, and THAT IS OKAY. (I can’t emphasize this enough. There’s so much unnecessary negativity around stock photos.)

My go-to for great (and free!) images is Pexels. Their library is gorgeous, diverse, and full of personality if you’re willing to dig a little.

So, how do you do stock photos right?

-Choose photos that feel authentic to your business and the story you’re telling
-Make sure the photos reflect your audience—who they are and how they see themselves
-Always use a reputable source, and double-check licensing and attribution requirements (you can’t just grab photos from Google!)
