When Covid hit I had to transition in-person workshops to virtual experiences. My super power had always been reading body language in a room and finding ways to keep an audience engaged and focused on the mission at hand.
To mimic the experience virtually I had to find new tools, rework the flow of workshops and even update exercises for the new format.
I'm pleased to say, the feedback on the changes I made have been very rewarding and I feel confident in the transformation. But let me tell you, it is HARD to create the same kind of personalized, engaging, high impact experience virtually. Your participants have a lot more distractions and body language is limited to facial expressions even with the use of video. And we can't forget the tactile interactions present in-person strategy sessions have to be translated to virtual ones.
After a bit of experimentation I now use Zoom + Miro for all of my collaborative facilitation. The combination offers everything I need to make a great experience whether I'm teaching a class, hosting a workshop or facilitating a strategic planning session.
Today, I took the time to become Collaborative Meetings verified on Miro. I'm glad I did. I learned about a couple of features I hadn't used in the past. I can't wait to put them into practice for post workshop action management.
