But recently I read a quote from a speaker whoโ€™s underrated.

Guyโ€™s name is Les Brown.

If legends are true, he was put in special ed courses as a child, labeled mentally ret*rded, and written off by his family. He shocked everyone by building a multi-million dollar business from scratch.

Anyway, the quote.

He said this:

โ€œPeople always say โ€˜I donโ€™t want to be rich,โ€™ I just want to be comfortable.โ€

But Iโ€™ve discovered that if you want to be comfortable, you have to be rich!โ€

Too true in my experience.

The problem with making โ€œjust enoughโ€ money to be comfortable is:

Recessions.

New technologies.

Shifting industries.

Layoffs.

Robberies.

May seem extreme to put that last one in there.

Thing is, it happened to me.

I watched nearly $1M of investment money disappear from my account.

Went from โ€œI'm comfortableโ€ to โ€œIโ€™m bankruptโ€ in seconds.

The only solution I know:

Keep getting educated

Keep up with the times

Keep getting rich

As a first-time founder who raised a $400k pre-seed ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Here are my biggest takeaways:

โ–ถ ๐ƒ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐œ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ, ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ง'๐ญ ๐ ๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š ๐œ๐ก๐ž๐œ๐ค. Stop expecting it. Instead, aim to build rapport and evaluate mutual fit. Genuine connections often lead to better outcomes in the end.

โ–ถ ๐…๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ซ๐š๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก. For every successful round you read about on TechCrunch or LinkedIn, 50 others failed.

โ–ถ ๐ƒ๐จ๐ง'๐ญ ๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ž ๐ซ๐ž๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ. I made that mistake too. A 'no' doesn't always reflect poorly on your business. Investors might lack funds and often avoid admitting this.

โ–ถ ๐…๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ซ๐š๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ž๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค. Plan on it.
