Way before elementary days, my eyes were fixed on becoming a doctor someday but it suddenly shifted when I was already in my high school days when I was able to see how my aunt has helped our family so much. She would do groceries for my grandparents, would give them credit cards so they can buy whatever they want and she would also invite us to their place during vacation and she would literally pamper us (whatever we want, name it!). I just wanted to be like her. Nice house in a well known village, 6-digit paying salary, brand new car once in a while and she could travel different parts of the world as well. Who wouldn’t want to be like her? So I made up my mind that I will be like her someday; to graduate with an accountancy course and work my way up the ladder in the corporate world. But it was like the tides of life were always against me. I did not take to an accountancy course so after I graduated I was confused at what path to take, the only thing clear to me is that I wanted to earn lots of money and reach the goals I have dreamt all my life.

Can you relate with me? Have you ever wanted something in your life that it pains you not to be able to reach that goal? That despite how hard you try, you keep on falling short? You are almost on the track on reaching what you wanted then suddenly something happens and the tides have shifted. I realized that I never stayed under the umbrella. It’s as if I always wanted to have a back up if what I am doing now don’t materialize then I’ll change direction. I never really knew my purpose and calling and I have always allowed money to sidetrack me. To Apostle Paul it was very clear, “But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24). He had what I call FOCUS – that internal compass that keeps a person on track with his gifts, his goals and his purpose in life.

I have recognized that even if I already knew God all my life, I really did not know my purpose and calling until I fully surrendered my life to Him. We may have joined retreats, church gatherings, bible studies and Sunday worship services but not until we come to the point of no return and truly entrusted our lives to God – we can never really find FOCUS for our PURPOSE! This world will keep on allowing us to be strayed away and that is what the devil wants! So let us continuously FOLLOW Jesus Christ so that we may find our daily purpose. Live a life worthy of eternity so you can enjoy life’s beauty.

My life may not be going the way i planned it but it is going exactly the way God planned it. Always have the discipline to say NO to anything off-mission; set your focus and stay with it. Remember that you are for God’s use only; represent Him daily and focus on your calling!
