Your monthly report is probably a receipt.
Not because your agency is lazy — because it’s the industry default. AgencyAnalytics measured report opens across 3.8 million client reports: only about half ever get opened. And when Databox asked agencies where report-building time actually goes, just 18% of it went to recommendations — what to do next. The rest describes the past.
Describing the past is the cheap part. You didn’t hire an agency to document last month. You hired them to decide next month.
A real report owes you three things, in plain English:
What happened — no jargon
What they found — the opportunities in your data, including the ones they’re not billing you for yet
What changes next month because of it — in your SEO, your ads, whatever the service is
If nothing in it changes next month’s plan, it’s not a report. It’s a receipt for money spent.
And clients are already asking for this: 55% of agencies say they regularly get asked “can you connect this to revenue?” (AgencyAnalytics, 2026). The demand exists. The default hasn’t caught up.
Go open last month’s report and look for the decision. Tell me in the comments what you find.
