Google has agreed to pay $68 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that alleged the technology giant's voice assistant had illegally recorded users and then shared their private conversations with advertisers.

The settlement stems from a lawsuit filed by several Google device owners who claimed their conversations had been recorded without their knowledge. While Google stated that its voice assistant would only register people's speech when consumers uttered an activation phrase, such as "Hey Google," the consumers claimed that their devices recorded them even without using such language.

Spent a few hours today helping and advising a small church with their tech equipment. The complicated integration and knock off equipment that someone thought was the the right solution had them setup for failure. We simplified, trained, and planned for next steps. It’s disheartening to fix others’ “solutions” but rewarding to help mitigate problems and set them up for success.

While consulting churches on tech, it’s heartbreaking to see a surplus of equipment in storage rooms losing value! 😱

Typically surplus comes from bad advice and half-baked ideas or upgrades. 😡 Often volunteers are not empowered to sell or discard gear, so they have no vested interest. Pastor is busy preaching. So it sits…

✅ Ask someone at your church if they have old gear — maybe SpenJam can connect them with other churches looking to BUY or RENT before the equipment becomes obsolete or devalued.

✅ Also if a church or non-profit needs upgrades, I already have a list of gear available from a few churches….
