How can we shape the way the brand is defined by its audience?

When launching or managing a business, creating or repositioning a brand, it's essential to understand what defines the brand. There are multiple components, but there's one that stands out: the audience's perception of the brand.

Maria Lains is a Nutritionist who needed her personal brand to convey the values she stands for: Positivity, Vitality and Fullness.

She says her patients go through a journey of transformation with her, on their own initiative trying to change habits towards a healthier lifestyle. She helps them not only from a nutrition point of view but in an all-around guidance. In this inner process that includes mindset and health, Yoga and Meditation are activities that Maria practices and encourages and that play an important role on her Logo & Brand Identity.

Identifying the pain points her patients go through when they think of a Nutritionist, I tried to escape the ideas of restriction, struggle, fear and punishment. When thinking about what her clients should feel, I focused on well-being, positive vibes, health and happiness.

With the help of Illustrator Marta Castelão – she’s also a kick-ass tattoo artist! Check out her work and art on instagram .ttt – we design a series of original illustrations, with food and nutrition elements, to depict these concepts.

Using the orange as the logo’s main element, as Maria requested, I created a lotus flower from orange leaf illustrations to include the Yoga, Meditation and Mindset concepts.

The orange, pomegranate, mint, wheat and water patterns – with Marta’s original illustrations – and the consequent creation of a secondary color palette, reinforce the identity in a colorful and joyful matter.

The chosen typography reinforces this as a personal brand, with the hand-lettering typeface strenghthening Maria’s personal stamp.

Conceptual Brand Identity project for The Cotovia Villas, a housing development project with 30+ villas in Cotovia, Sesimbra, Portugal.

The bird in the logo is a Cotovia, the Portuguese name for the Alaudidae bird species. The secondary logo joins the letter C and the cotovia mark, allowing for total responsiveness and an efficient application.

The color palette is inspired by the materials used in the architectural project, the light wood and the swimming pool color. It is also influenced by the project’s surroundings, namely the nearby beaches and the Arrábida mountain range that stands in the horizon.

MOM FIT is a women's sportswear brand.

The concept behind this identity focuses on joining the five core brand values that should dictate its message, positioning and personality: athletic ability; female elegance; women power; fashion sense; and maternal instinct.

The cheetah is generally perceived as a symbol of elegance, speed and athletics. The spotted coat and the tear line markings on the face (which resemble make-up but are actually for anti-glare purposes) are the fashion components.

What about the maternal instinct, such a key element of the brand's identity?

My research showed me that cheetahs are one of the most highlighted and praised moms in the animal kingdom. The mother raises their young cubs alone, in isolation. She moves the litter - usually two to six cubs - every four days to avoid being tracked and found by predators. For 18 months, she teaches the cubs every skill they need in order to survive and thrive on their own.

Some of my sources were WWF ("5 Remarkable Animal Moms"), National Geographic ("Amazing Animal Moms"), BBC ("Amazing Mothers of the Animal Kingdom") ad Animal Planet ("Top 10 Animal Moms").

When I gathered this information, I realized that I had found the best solution for this project. The cheetah conceptualizes the brand's five core values. MOM FIT became not only a brand of "SPORTSWEAR FOR WOMEN" but also "SPORTSWEAR FOR CHEETAHS".

TWONIC is a physical+brain tonic with an innovative presentation: an ampoule (physical tonic) and a capsule (brain tonic) in the same blister. It enables a double action tailored to fit the user's needs.

This pharmaceutical product fits a wide target audience. From seniors to young adults with diverse lifestyles and careers. From students preparing for an exam to healthcare professionals starting a new shift. For a physical boost after a gym session to the mental stamina needed to complete demanding professional tasks.

The brand needed a name that conveyed this innovation and this 2 in 1 concept, highlighting the double effect provided by ampoule+capsule. My creative process led me to join the words TWO and TONIC, creating TWONIC.

The round mark that replaces the letter "O" in the product's logo also symbolizes the 2 in 1 concept. Each half and its color represents both the physical and the brain tonic effects.
