Two Types of Mindset Your ability to recognize the value of your inner experience—and, as a result, your ability to motivate yourself—is greatly affected by your type of mindset. Psychologist Carol Dweck distinguishes between two types: fixed mindset and growth mindset. Fixed mindset Fixed mindsets believe that their abilities are limited and think it is wise to put effort into only those areas in which they themselves feel competent. Situations in which they may seem unprepared or inept cause them anxiety, they try to avoid them. Such people usually: dislike everything new; neglect useful criticism; feel that the success of others threatens them. One of the main disadvantages of a fixed mindset is the constant need for approval from the outside in order to prove your worth not only to others, but also to yourself. Growth mindset People with this type of mindset see their intelligence as flexible and their potential as limitless, and they believe that with knowledge, perseverance, and practice, anything can be achieved. Such people usually: believe that excellence is the result of effort; benefit from criticism; feel that the success of others inspires them. But perhaps the most important quality of the growth mindset is the ability to recognize your own worth without needing the constant approval of others.

It's enough just to try. Remember how you force yourself to do something that you don't want to do or are afraid to do? For example, you have to perform in front of a large audience, but are shy. Finally, having made up your mind, you say to yourself: “Okay, it’s enough to start, and then it will go like clockwork,” and you rush off the bat. The idea of “I’ll just try and lose nothing” is good for taking action once, but it’s not good as a long-term motivator. Instead of “just trying” all the time, take action. If you are afraid of speaking in public, create a plan for yourself with the abstract and follow it. If you are embarrassed to go to the gym, find yourself a training program in advance. So you will always know what to do, even in an unusual situation for you. Choose specific tasks and set an achievable bar.

Promises you must make to yourself and always keep 1. I will not hold on to the past Your problems, your weaknesses, failures, regrets and mistakes can teach you a lot if you are willing to learn. And they can exhaust you if you're not ready. So allow yourself to learn every day. Take everything as a useful lesson. If you regret some past decisions or actions, stop carrying it with you. Then you did your best according to the knowledge and experience you had. Then you were younger. Perhaps if you made a decision today, already with more experience and knowledge, you would have acted differently. So give yourself some relief. Time and experience will help you grow and learn to make the right decisions for yourself and those you care about. I will manage my own life and take responsibility for my actions. You blame your parents, teachers, the education system, the government, but not yourself. After all, you are never wrong . But it is not. If you want to change, if you want to move on, the responsibility always lies with you. Only you can make your own decisions. You alone must be responsible for them. Manage your life on your own. I will refer to myself as a friend Think about what you usually say to yourself. Are these inspiring, encouraging words that you could say to a friend? Or hurtful remarks, which only the worst enemy deserves? All day long we silently talk to ourselves and believe every word we say. So channel your inner voice wisely. Ask yourself: "If I had a friend who constantly told me what I tell myself, how long would he remain my friend? " 4. I will listen to what my heart tells me. Feelings and intuition rarely let us down (at least it's worth checking). And if deep down you feel that you are doing something wrong, most likely it is so. Pay attention to your true feelings and follow where they lead you. Listening to your inner voice, you will see that closed doors only seem like that. In fact, they are open to you. I will live the way I think is right Allow yourself to walk the path that makes you happier. It is normal that some people in your life will not approve of this and will discourage you in every possible way. After all, we all have different ideas about happiness. Dedicate yourself to creating your own happiness. As sad as it may sound, in order to achieve what you want, you have to give up something. And it is better to give up relationships in which you are forced to do what you do not want. I promise to let go of people with whom relationships have reached an impasse. Most people appear in our lives for a short time. They come, teach us something, change something in us and leave. This is fine. Not all relationships end, but all relationships can teach us valuable lessons. If you are open with each person, you will learn a lot of worth. Sometimes it is strange to realize that you have spent too much time with a person with whom nothing connects you anymore. But don't regret it. Everything is going exactly as it should.

Effective Ways to Get Smarter 6. Play Mind Games Brain stimulation games and programs are usually developed by neurologists and cognitive psychologists specifically to improve the functioning of different parts of the brain. You can find a variety of games: some develop memory, others mindfulness, others improve orientation in space, and others teach you to concentrate. How to do it Think about how you would like to pump your brain. Do you want to train your memory? Play games that will teach you how to memorize different sequences. Do you want to become more observant? Play games in which you need to look for various items. You can choose how to train your brain on your own. Talk to yourself Many consider talking to yourself a sign of an unstable mental state, but it has recently been shown to stimulate brain activity in many waysM. Buschkuehl, J. Jonides, W. Improving fluid intelligence with training on working memory. When you talk to yourself, you learn to organize and simplify information, which often helps you solve problems more effectively. Of course, it will be better if you still do not talk to yourself in some public places, but at home it is quite possible. How to do it Read aloud, say tongue twisters, memorize poems or sing songs. If you are trying to remember something, then try to retell it to yourself as if you are trying to explain an incomprehensible thing to an outsider. Present information in different ways: as if you are talking to a colleague, or as if you are communicating with a child. This technique allows you to better absorb and understand information. Learn to formulate thoughts briefly Social networks can come to the rescue here. For example, on the social network Twitter, you can only leave an entry that consists of no more than 140 characters. It turns out that using Twitter, we learn to organize information and express our thoughts clearly and concisely. If you do not want to share your thoughts on social networks, then you can simply take a piece of paper, draw a figure on it and write down your thoughts without going beyond its borders. How to do it Create a Twitter account, find a piece of paper or open notes on your phone, decide what boundaries you set for yourself, and start writing. You can do this at any convenient time for a little distraction. Learn languages When we learn a new language, our brains are actively working: we train our memory by memorizing new words, we learn something that we have not done before by practicing conversational skills, we try to think in another language. All this sometimes helps to look at the world differently. The brain of a person who speaks several languages works much more efficiently than the brain of those who speak only one language. How to do it Find services and applications that will make learning foreign languages easy and enjoyable. There are many resources to help you get started in learning a new language. Don't forget to practice your conversational skills and be sure to find a native speaker with whom you can correspond or communicate in person. Surround yourself with smart people Environment sometimes affects us much more than we would like. So surround yourself with people who will help you become more knowledgeable about the things you don't understand. How to do it Expand your circle of friends and meet those people from whom you can learn something good. You can also join some community of interest and find friends there.
