Today I shared a seemingly pointless reel for a client. In it I'm just messing around with the owner, playing a joke on him about an invisible flea in my hand. The client's services are never mentioned. The client's name is never even mentioned. It quite literally has nothing to do with what they do.
And it's probably going to be their most engaged-with piece of content for the month.
So many brands are caught up in the idea of selling themselves on social media they forget why the vast majority of folks are mindlessly scrolling each day: they want to be entertained. And in attempting to be uber professional always, we tend to forget that whatever we do, be that marketing or coworking or nonprofit work, can be fun. It should be fun.
This is your sign to occasionally, every once in a while, forget about the ROI. Forget about the services you need to make people aware of, the information you need to share, the algorithm you have to beat, etc. Instead, just have fun with it. Post something silly. Get a little goofy. Laugh. I promise it will have it will have its own reward.
