Task lists tend to grow into something unmanageable if you're not careful.

And you end up with so many that your To Do list is like an overstuffed closet.

Good things get crushed or forgotten and end up on the floor with the shoes. 🤣

Instead, only add tasks to your To Do list that you are absolutely committed to doing.

And put everything else on a Maybe list.

That way the important stuff doesn't get forgotten, and you don't worry about losing the things you might want to do but haven't really decided on yet.

As well as the To Do list and the Maybe list, keep a third list.

That's your To Do Today list with the 3 to 6 items you're planning to do today.

For best results, make sure each of your tasks on today's list are short enough to complete in one block of time, and make them specific.

Not "work on my new course" but "create the outline for module 3 of my course" for example.

Add the time you're planning to start each task and how long you think it will take.

For even better no-stress results, decide how long you'll need and then double it! 🧡

With all the little things getting in the way, it's hard to see any progress some days.

So, I loved the message that my coach Naima put out this weekend on Facebook.

It's a quote worth remembering when you feel like you're getting nowhere.

But it also means you should focus time and effort on finally resolving the problems that happen frequently so that you can make way for new ones.

I read somewhere, it's a sign of growth when you have bigger problems to handle.

I knew there was a catch! 🧡

Save it, so you don’t forget.🥰

There's a lot to be said for creating multiple products of the same type.

You get experience in using the tools.

You get faster the more experience you have.

But then if you're churning out the same old things, boredom sets in. (It does for me anyway.)

And it's not as much fun anymore. 😔

It used to happen a lot when I first started working online.

I was churning out articles and webpages and reviews of products until I would rather do anything other than sit at my keyboard and work.

Now I know not to do that to myself.

These days, I make sure we try something new with every project we do. 🥰

It might be a new planner format, a new tool, or a new graphic technique.

Even a new topic or site.

It could be a new sales page design.

Or a new shopping cart (hello, Thrivecart!)

Learning and experiments keep everything fresh. 💯

If everything is starting to feel like a grind for you right now, what could you change this week, or next to put the fun back in your work? 🧡

Have you been putting off learning something you need to be able to do because you think it will be too difficult? 🤔

Maybe you've heard the idea that it takes 10,000 hours to master a thing.

And you're already short of time.

So why bother trying?

But most of us don't need a 10,000 hours level of skill.

We're not aiming to be brain surgeons.

Or to fly a jumbo jet.

It's usually more like a ten-hour level of skill we need.

We don't need to be the best at everything.

We don't even need to be an expert.

Usually, it's enough when we know enough to get by. ✨

Mastery can come later.

What are you resisting learning? Could you give it ten hours to get over feeling like you haven't a clue?

Even 30 minutes a day will get you there. 🧡

Whatever you do online, you will have competitors. 🙌

That's the reality for most business ventures.

In fact, you only need to worry if you don't have competitors because that usually means there is no market to sell your products and services to.

But your competitors are not your enemy in business.

Your enemy is not even what's going on out there in the wider world with inflation, epidemic, climate, and wars.

Though you have to contend with all that, too.

No, your greatest enemy is what's going on in your head.

My head too.

All our heads!

An enemy in the camp. 😱

It's what's going on up there that stops us doing the things we know we need to do to succeed.

So when you're deciding what to focus on each day, don't forget to work on your mind as well as your marketing. ✨

I'm still working on mine and will probably never stop.🧡

There are a lot of tasks which need to be done over and over again.

Unless you do the "task killer" task.

Reduce your work by half by doing as many "task killer" tasks as you can.

For example, instead of having to think of something to eat for dinner every night, plan a month's worth of meals in one go and put them on repeat month after month.

Or even easier, note down what you eat each day for a month and then repeat it, substituting only where you tried something, and you or your family didn't like it.

Or your family went off the thing they've been eating for years.

Or the weather went from scorching to freezing cold.

It saves a lot of thinking!

Another example, keep a spreadsheet of things you keep having to look up, or create instructions for things you have to do more than once but don't remember how.

And then there's teaching others to do something when everything falls on you.

Teach it once and let it go!

That might be your kid or someone else in your family.

Or it could mean outsourcing some of your tasks.

What "task killer" tasks could make your life easier and reduce your workload in the long run? 🧡

The more things I try out outline, the more I realize that I have no control whatsoever over the results of any particular activity.

The things I say may get ignored.

The things I love and tell people about may not be loved with equal enthusiasm by others.

The things I offer may not always sell in the numbers I want.

But that's life.

One thing is certain; 100% of the things I DON'T say or tell people about get ignored and 100% of the products I DON'T make fail to sell. 🤣

So we just have to do the work and watch the results.

At least we can control that.

No matter what happens, enjoy the ride.

Because it's a wild one. 🧡

It has come to the attention of the management...

Oh wait; I have no manager. 🤣

There's only me, trying to manage myself.

But I catch myself doing work that's not real work all of the time.

I seem to work long hours, often sitting here at my PC from early in the morning until late at night, just stopping for meals and to walk the dog.

But not always taking action on the things I'm trying to achieve.

So what am I doing?

I'm taking courses on things I don't need to get my project done.

I'm looking at products to buy that I don't need right now and spending precious time deciding whether to buy them.

I'm doing research and falling down rabbit holes, just like I talked about yesterday.

I'm on zoom chatting to other marketers.

In other words, fake work!

Now, all of that is okay and often leads to new ideas (and it's fun so why stop it?)

But I'm just thinking it might be more restful to get all the actual work done in the morning and then "play" the rest of the day (even if that's on the PC) rather than feeling I'm always behind.

What about you? Does your output justify the hours you spend behind your laptop?

Do you do the important things first? 🤔

When you start a business or a new revenue stream, it's easy to get overwhelmed by looking at the bigger picture and thinking about how much effort it is and how much you don't know.

Ask me how I know 🤣

But if that happens, quit thinking big, and zoom in.

Just think of a few actions you can take to move nearer to your goal, ones that you know you can do. For example,

✔ spend 15 minutes brainstorming your course title
✔ research a relevant blog topic for ten minutes
✔ write a paragraph of your welcome sequence

Pat yourself on the back for every small win because success is inevitable if you keep taking action on the easily-achievable micro steps that are right in front of your nose. 🧡

Thought for the day. 🧡What are you spending your precious time on and how can you make the most of it? 🤔
