In practice, that primarily means designing and building websites, but we also design visual identities (logos/brands) and digital assets such as reports, flyers and infographics.

Blackheath Yoga : yoga for everyone in the heart of Blackheath village.

https://www.blackheathyoga.co.uk/

We've worked with Blackheath Yoga since it started five years ago, coming in right at the beginning to develop the company's visual identity and brand. Working closely with the founder, we defined a clean brand that incorporated calm, meditative colours and a modern logo that is subtly reminiscent of the heath.

In 2019, Blackheath Yoga brought us in again to have a look at their website, improving the user experience and providing design recommendations, as well as fixing some technical problems.

We have also produced several marketing materials for Blackheath Yoga over the last two years, including templates that could be edited by the client without having to keep coming back to us!

Sew_Fifi: bespoke handmade clothes for children and babies.

Annie asked us to create a logo for her new business that she could use on Instagram and other social media platforms, and on her packaging. It needed to be flexible to fit different forms and layouts. The brief was quite open but she had a few specific ideas which we used as a starting point.

This project involved quite a bit of back-and-forth with the client, as well as in-depth research and some intricate illustration, so it was on the longer side for a pure visual identity / logo project. But in the end we got a versatile logo and accompanying visual identity that could be used in multiple settings.

Yoga Nidra and Sound Healing with Anua: a freelance yoga nidra instructor and sound therapist.

This time last year, we were approached by Anua. She needed help setting up a website for herself and had been passed our name by the Yoga Nidra Network (who we had done a proposal for and who had decided to go with a larger agency - a great illustration of the power of getting your name out there even if it doesn’t work out at first!)

As a very small business, Anua needed a cost-effective website that she could update and edit herself in the future. She also didn’t have a visual identity, so we created one for her as part of the project.

The visual identity balances deep blue and purple gradients with a more elevated melée of lighter colours - pinks and yellows - to represent the two complementary parts of Anua’s business. While she didn’t need a logo as such, we came up with a simple motif for her to use across the site and on any marketing/packaging materials, which represents the singing bowl used in her sessions, and is also reminiscent of a musical note.

We worked hard to get a simple website that was easy to navigate - not an easy task with a business with two distinct offerings! The end result has a sleepy feel but a logical flow that guides the user instantly to the service they need.

The Palace Plant Sitter: plant-sitting services in Crystal Palace.

The is a really small business operating solely on social media, so they needed a logo and visual identity that would work on Facebook and Instagram.

We started with a circular frame and came up with a series of sketches evoking everything from simple plants, to the plant-sitter herself, to the Crystal Palace tower. But we were looking for something that would be immediately recognisable no matter the size, so eventually, simplicity won out.

The logo came first, with the colour palette developing from the logo concept. The result combines bold shades of green on a muted palette that forms a natural backdrop for close-ups of plants and leaves. Check out the Palace Plant Sitter instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/palaceplantsitter/ to see how beautifully it has been executed.

Dar Bennani: an ancient house in the heart of Fez, Morocco. https://www.appleseed-digital.com/dar-bennani

Our latest project was to redesign and recreate the website for Dar Bennani, a beautiful holiday rental in Fez’s old town (or medina). The house was restored to its former glory in 2010, and its website built a couple of years later… 10 years on, it was in need of a serious refresh!

We worked with Dar Bennani’s owners to come up with a new visual identity and website that convey the simple grandeur of the house and are true to its aesthetic. Using the traditional tiling as inspiration, the motif and colour palette evoke the medieval craftsmanship that went into the original house.

The high-impact images hint at the lasting impression that the house and the medina will have on you… without giving too much away.

Our new visual identity! When we started Appleseed two years ago, we had a fledgling visual identity with a playful undertone. But with a few projects under our belt now, and a bit more of an idea about who we are, we decided to take the opportunity of our step back to think a bit more about our vision and values.

What we’ve come up with is true to our original identity, but we’ve upped the ante on playfulness and boldness by adding more colours to the palette, and contrasting and layering them on top of one another. We love making digital products - it’s a fun and creative process - and hopefully that comes across in our upgraded visual identity and redesigned website: https://www.appleseed-digital.com/

We’re back! After taking a step back to grow our family (pictured: two small children; one large dog; two tired parents) we are ready to turn our attention back to Appleseed. And we’re so excited! A lot has happened since we were last here - as well as producing another human, we’ve pulled Appleseed from the side hustle it was into front and centre, we’ve developed our brand and identity, and we’ve expanded our offerings to cover all aspects of digital design.

In case you don’t know us yet (or need a refresher), here’s a quick introduction. Appleseed is a digital design agency, meaning we design digital products (duh). In practice, that means a lot of websites, but we also do visual identities (logo, colour palette, fonts, etc.) and other digital products like reports, flyers, etc. Basically anything you can think of. We’re a small family business, a husband and wife duo, living in Kent and raising our boys. Alice is the main heart of Appleseed, doing all the design and most of the day-to-day running of the business, and Alex supports with customer/user experience and anything related to digital marketing (SEO, content and copy, metadata, etc.) alongside his day job.

Check out our website for more about what we do, why we do it and how much it costs(!) as well as a bunch of the digital design we’ve delivered for happy customers, including a few low-key projects we’ve worked on over the last year (yes we took a step back - but only one! When you love your work you can’t stay away) that we can’t wait to share with you. https://www.appleseed-digital.com/

And if you - or anyone you know - is in need of a website, logo, or any other type of digital design, hit us up! We’re raring to go.

Graduate Universe: a recruitment start-up with a difference.

https://www.graduateuniverse.com/

We worked with Graduate Universe ahead of their company launch to craft a visual identity and website that were bold, modern, and stood out from the crowd.

An initial face-to-face workshop with Graduate Universe gave us an in-depth understanding of the company's vision and mission. Then, we put together a visual identity to fit those, along with a skeleton for the structure of the website.

With the visual identity and site structure signed off, we got to work on the website, keeping Graduate Universe in the loop with periodic video calls, and adjusting our approach whenever needed.

Windsor Hill Wood: a Christian community retreat welcoming anyone that's finding life difficult.

http://www.windsorhillwood.co.uk/

Although they have existed for years, Windsor Hill Wood has never had a consolidated visual identity and brand. So when we were asked to design their 2018 annual report and accounts, the first thing we needed to do was to create a visual identity for them that they could use across all their digital and print materials. We came up with a simple identity featuring woodland colours and a homey (though not old-fashioned) feel.

The website was desperately in need of a refresh, so after completing the 2019 annual report, Windsor Hill Wood asked for our help again. Working with the Assistant Warden, we established that the site needed to function as a window into the WHW site. The result is a patchwork effect featuring strong imagery and videos throughout that give the user an insight into the Windsor Hill Wood rhythm and atmosphere.

Caravanserais: a digital appendix to an academic article.

https://davidgye.wixsite.com/caravanserais

We were hired to create a digital appendix to the article 'Caravanserais on the route from Lar to Bandar 'Abbas', which is published on paper in an academic journal.

This was very different to anything we'd done before, and we enjoyed the challenge. The website needed to reflect the serious tone of the paper, so we had to keep it as simple as possible while also creating something that would be engaging and readable for the user. The result is a collection of crisp, minimalist pages that reflect the style of the academic journal in which the original article is printed.
