It’s been 13 months since we first began, and the time has come for us to close the curtains.

We’ve had the opportunity to tell so many stories, and learn more about our community than we could ever have imagined. Every post and video you’ve seen here is a labour of love, with the hope of sparking meaningful conversations about the social issues that affect us all.

To every person who has lent their voice to our platform, and offered us advice and counsel for subject matters of their expertise, we thank you for lending us your wisdom and clarity.

To the people who’ve supported us behind the scenes – through filming, editing, and sharing our content – we thank you for being the bedrock to our cause.

To all the individuals and organisations doing the real work – volunteering, campaigning, advocating for change in the ways you know best – we thank you for the courage to walk the less travelled road, so that young people like us would be more aware of our rights and our wrongs.

And finally, to all our viewers who’ve followed us on our weird and wonderful journey, thank you for giving our stories a chance.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Life really isn’t a straight line, and you needn’t be a full-time artist to know this. It’s messy, unpredictable, and full of twists and turns.

What hopes to remind us through his work is simple - your own journey is your own. Like a turtle swimming in a vast ocean, take it slow, and let the currents guide your flow.

Toby never imagined the doodles on his school worksheets would become his bread and butter. And yet to date, his newfound career in urban art shows no signs of slowing down, with the signature TOBYATO tag etched into street courts, longboards, sneakers and...practically anything you could imagine.

Amidst the non-stop hustle, there was one project he wouldn’t miss for the world - and that was the opportunity to paint for the studio where his art journey really began, 10 years ago.

In our final episode of Broadscope Journeys, we join Toby as he paints a tribute to the space that made him, while finally having time to pause and reflect on his craft, as well as his purpose.

Work is just a fraction of the lives we live - feel free to give it your all, but don’t let it define you. Keep in mind that every event in life, be it success or failure, win or loss is part of a process of nourishing ourselves!

Put yourself first, always.

As more of us start to be aware about the importance of mental health, let’s identify parts of the discourse that are helpful, and take note of those that don’t. News headlines and viral events do not fully represent the broad spectrum of mental issues, which come in all forms and are relevant to every one of us.

Associating mental illnesses with negative behavioral traits - like being lazy, violent, or even racist - does not help to encourage empathy, but rather turns society against the very people that might need help!

As we celebrate how far we’ve come as a nation, let’s also begin to appreciate and truly value every person who has contributed to what we have today, regardless of nationality.

A year ago, migrant workers in Singapore made global headlines for an astonishing disparity in the rising numbers of COVID cases compared to those in the local community.

Poet and community organiser, Zakir Hossain Khokan was one of those who contracted the virus, and his journey of fighting stigma in a home away from home, while fearing for his life, is a story he is thankful to still be alive to tell.

Many thanks to Amrakajona Zakir for sharing your story and Covid-19 Migrant Support Coalition for kindly connecting us!

Special Mentions:
ARTS IN ME ( AIM)
One Bag, One Book
Migrant Workers Photography Festival
Migrant Writers of Singapore
TEDx SINGAPORE
And to all dear friends of Zakir and fellow migrant friends, who have been offering much love and support to the migrant community.

Loving Singapore is more than just celebrating the good stuff.

There are pressures, and challenges that Singaporeans face daily, and in our latest episode of Hold Up, Kumar and Tan Kheng Hua hold nothing back in acknowledging these realities. It is, after all, the first step before we work together to face them head-on.

As National Day comes along, let’s take some time to reflect on our Singapore culture, and what holds us together as a community.
