4 Myths holding you back from growing on Social Media

1. Content should only be about the products and services
Social media content shouldn't be your brochure. If your content doesn't evoke certain feelings in people, then it will not stand the test of time. Create content that is RELATED to your business, but isn't all ABOUT your business.

2. Posting everyday increases sales and followers
Not necessarily. While we, social media professionals preach about consistency, it doesn't mean you have to post everyday to see an increase in followers or sales. What people care about is quality over quantity. Also, you shouldn't consider social media as sales channel, it is an instrument to reach your desired outcome, but not everything.

3. Ads are more important than content strategy
Avoid creating a rivalry where it shouldn't be. Ads are short-term gains, organic content is a long-term game! Both of them are important in your overall marketing strategy.

4. We can't measure social media efforts
Uuhh, yes you can! First you will have to do something that can be measure such as tracking URLs, transparent purchase funnel and a unified customer database. This holy trinity made of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service can answer the question "how are we making money from social media?". The same thing applies to radio, TV, fancy billboards and more, but some are not ready for this conversation😜

❌Don't:
- post without a strategy
- treat your social media channels as default sales channels
- copy other brands
- value vanity metrics and aesthetics more than actual results

✅Do:
- Research your audience. Discover their preferred channels, needs, goals and behaviors.
- Make a strategy based on said research
- Engage with your audience (it's called social media for something right?!)
- Track analytics and improve based on data

"Just spend 1-2 hours a day on it and let's focus on other important areas."

This is what I told to one of my employers and they told me: "Just spend 1-2 hours a day on social media and we're good".

I worked as Marketing Manager for a small fashion brand and the owner had no idea what social media is and how it works, but I made it my goal to show him how it works and what it can do for his brand. For a few months he was very interested in it and wanted to know more about it. But, since he was the CEO he also had other things to take care of and didn't have enough time.

I continued to do my job and noticed a slow, a very slow, growth and it got me thinking why. So I asked him if he knows what happened before I came in. He told me they bought followers🤦🏻‍♀️. Well, no surprise we could barely see any growth.

So I had to double my time "spent on social media" to grow a more organic community. But, because he didn't see immediate results he thought the strategy is not working so he put other tasks on my lap (not necessarily related to social media).

The point is, it's taking time to see results from social media and influencer marketing, but they are nevertheless worth it.

We didn't plan accordingly and we were late for Black Friday.😦

That's what happened when I worked at a fashion company as soon as I graduated.
Today I wanted to share with you a story. I got hired as an intern at a fashion company and my title was obviously Social Media Intern. What they didn't tell me is that I was the ONLY person in charge of Marketing + I was supposed to help with other tasks as well🥲. Back then I didn't have a lot of experience, so I learned everything about Social Media on my own. I created a strategy, content, content calendar, wrote the captions, hashtags and so much more.

But, because I was helping other departments as well and the CEO didn't have time to have a proper meeting about marketing, we couldn't plan accordingly for Black Friday and we were late with the content, discount code and more.

Influencer marketing is more common nowadays, so there's a big chance you heard about it before. It is a targeted method of advertising, where the brands develop relationships with influencers to tap into their audiences. However, it takes time to find the most suitable influencers for your brand. Especially the ones with high conversion rate.

What is ROI?

Return-on-Investment - Based on Influencer Marketing Hub research "for every $1 that brands spend on influencers, they are getting an ROI of $5.78." Depending on your goal, you'll know what KPI's to keep an eye on. For example, if your goal is to create awareness, then Impressions is the KPI to look at.

How to measure it?

The end goal is usually increasing sales. A method to measure if influencer marketing is working for your brand is to give influencers a unique code to share with their subscribers to receive a discount for example. So, now that we got that out of the way, it's time to adress the elephant in the room. What is Engagement Rate?
📝Engagement rate is used to measure the level of interaction by followers from content created by a user. It is calculated as total engagement (coments, likes, shares and saves) divided by total followers, multiplied by 100.

The industry average for engagement rate is between 1 - 2.50%. This would indicate that an account has a good level of engagement when it comes to their content.

I know, sometimes numbers are difficult to keep up with, but they are important to measure and keep track of your KPI's.

If you don't pay enough attention to engagement rate, then you don't have a way know if your social media strategy is working.

Now it's time to create your content and keep track of your engagement rate and other important statistics.

These last few months have been crazy and the hectic period hasn't ended yet and it's going to take a little bit more time to finish off everything. That is why I have neglected a bit my biz Instagram and haven;t posted in a while.

As a result myy engagement and reach dropped, because I wasn't consistent. And I couldn't be consistent because of what was happenning in my personal life. Trying to find a routine is kind of difficult for me now so my question is: how do you make sure you have enough time for personal and professional stuff?

Of course there are alternatives out there for anything. Coffee, pyjamas, chocolate, you name it. But there are some which are better than others, am I right?👀

Why should you settle for less, when you could reach so much more.

Sure, you can write the lengthy caption, add the carefully selected hashtags, post the carefully curated pic and engage with other people. But what if I told you that there is also another way to reach people?

It's called - ✨ALT text✨

ALT text is a short written description of an image (keywords if you want), which describes that image when it can't be viewed for some reason. Well-written ALT text is important for your content's accessibility (vision-impaired people for example), and its search engine optimization (SEO).

To add your ALT text:
✨Go to one of your posts.
✨Click the 3 dots in the top right corner.
✨Click Edit

Oh the old question: How to find the right influencers (in your niche) for your brand?

There are various ways to search for them.

1. One of them would be influencer marketing platforms. These are one of the best resources because there you have filters to short list them and their audience: age range, location, engagement rate and so much more.

2. The second option would be manual search. If you somehow don't have access to an influencer marketing platform, what I used to do and sometimes still am is to go on Instagram, search for my desired influencer and then click the blue arrow next to their name to show me other similar accounts. Usually Instagram will also show similar account in the same geographic area. Which is great if you want to target certain countries.

I also enjoyed the manual search when I would just want to scroll through photos and see people are commenting.

One of my previous clients, was selling very niched products. The peak season was in the summer, then as soon as autumn came, there weren't so many sales. These products were mostly for parties and open back, deep-V, strapless dresses/tops, mostly for when women couldn't wear a bra, but wanted some support. It was difficult enough to sell when winter was coming, now with the "pandamonium" was almost impossible.👀

We had to figure out a way to raise the sales during the cold season as well. So, we started promoting the products in countries that had a warm weather most of the year.

I created the content calendar, made all the graphics and selected all the photos to be posted. We also wanted more promotion, so we decided to use influencer marketing from selected countries.

Soon enough, we noticed that sales had started to pick up in the targeted countries.

If you are in the same situation, here are some tips:

- Target other countries

- Engage with people from those countries

- Use influencers from those countries

- Add more products to your catalogue, but don't stray away too far from your core business.

- Create a strategy and be intentional about it

"Why should we show who is behind the brand? People care about the the product and we should only focus on promoting the product."

Yes, true, people do care about products, but they are also interested to see who is/are the person/persons behind the brand. Are they real people? Is it just a cheap ghost company that only wants money? Who stands behind these products?

The formula looks like this:
- launch collections frequently
- target mostly the age group 15-30
- make VERY instagrammable photoshoots
- use A LOT of influencers
- offer LOTS of discounts
- and the most important piece of the puzzle: invest HEAVILY on social media.
