Well, I over worked it. I spent all day on this muddy mess But I learned a lot! So it was time well spent.

Flip all the way through to see the process and reference image. Which stage do YOU think I should have stopped?

Reflections:

I really liked how the reference image looked like it was glowing but it ended up starting to look like a negative which was kind of cool but it when awry. I think I needed to choose a better composition with more balance. This is too shadow heavy and the eye doesn't really know where to go. It was doomed from the start.

I over worked and ended up adding more and more to fix it when I should have removed some or taken a step away for a bit. You can only see the things you fixate on until you have some breathing room. Fresh eyes are helpful.

The colour pallet is all kinds of strange. I was throwing just anything on it in the end. I had a blast playing with what I had on the pallet so while I don't like how it turned out I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Playing with a new composition inspired by one of my favorite things in the world, Lord of the rings!!!!

It's scary moving away from the safe florals I've been studying but scary is good and clearly I'm not taking it THAT seriously.

New in progress painting!
I LOVE blue and red so I decided to play with it in a new floral piece (of course more flowers).

Why do I paint flowers? There are so many forms layers on top of one another so for me it's practice in building light and shadows. Some times I start with the light layers and add in the shadows and, with this new one. I'm bringing the light out of the blue. It's fun to see it come to life!

The red is interesting. It's such a contrast to the blue but also such a deep colour that I decided to have it in the shadows within the bloom to make it look like it's glowing. It give the flower its own light source.

The finished piece will take a bit so here it is with some other originals!

This new painting has me kind of in a weird place. It's of a window where the glass has so much texture it's hard to make out the scene behind it. It surprised me how appropriate of a metaphors it is to my life right now. I'm not sure exactly what comes next.

Juggling life and work makes me feel overworked and useless all at the same time. Since I love the work, my backwards brain thinks it's what I need to deprioritise. Silly goose. The way forward is hazy but I'll keep going.

This is my reminder to keep looking for the joy in whatever the situation is or becomes.

I hope this messy, chaotic clip brings you joy. I enjoyed making it.
