Open Mic nights are always a great thing, especially if they're in the right venue, have a great following and of course a great host!

Mike and Hugh, put everything into these nights in Hawkhurst, and it isn't just for their benefit, they do this because they are filled with passion and literally want to see talented musicians and singers step up to the mic and showcase what they can do. Mike also encourages people to step up if they have other abilities, whether it's telling jokes or doing magic. Although these nights do contain 100% music for now, there is always encouragement for other gifted people to step up and take a swing at the mic to wow people and be heard.

The venue itself is a great venue that is very accommodating to strangers and people on the road too. I don't live far away from the area, I had never been to the place before I heard of Mikes Open Mic Nights, and I was made to feel very welcome and dropped into place very quickly may I add.

The venue is a Public House that is situated on the main drag in Hawkhurst and is called 'The Eight Bells Country Pub and Kitchen.'

The venue offers great nights of varied entertainment as well as hosting Mikes showcase events, they serve great ales, spirits and soft drinks to make sure everyone that visits has ample choice. The Eight Bells offer great hot and cold served food, that feeds the biggest of meat eaters and caters for those veggie people too.

On top of that they are open to people bringing their dogs along quoting....

"We absolutely love dogs here at The Eight Bells and
welcome them in the lounge bar, Moor bar, beer garden
and pagoda (on leads.)"

The almighty bass slapping and totally awesome Jack from down West UK, his dedication, skills, talents and his commitment to his direction in life is totally mind blowing!

I can't wait to capture these guys again in LDN Town when they drop in to Shepherds Bush Empire to relive their youthful days and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the great album 'Replenish.'

One of my favourite bands that has always been is the amazing 'REEF,' loving these guys from years ago and watching them only getting better and better is totally out of this world.

But who would of thought that I would have ended up crossing paths with these guys so much!

November I will path cross with these guys at Shepherd Bush in LDN Town!! Absolutely stoked!

Three musicians, one band made of two, one solo and a fantastic venue!

The perfect recipe for the perfect night. Sand & Stone always entertain and always pack that energetic punch that knocks your ears for six when they step up to the spot!

Playing songs from the heart, songs from the soul, songs with stories from the road and songs that need to be heard! They never get boring and never back away from serving that plate hot!

Support act Lucy May Walker came with her bag of tricks, serving ace after ace and letting people know she certainly means business too! She has definitely gained a new fan this end and I can't wait to catch her some more where and when I can!

Sand & Stone can be caught again this month playing the Music Workshop in Folkestone with another gem of an artist, the very talented Thomas Ashby.

The endless energy always shines through with Tom, from song after song, from tale after tale, he just keeps going.

I can only compare him to One Hundred Acre Woods very own 'Tigger,' but this one comes from Folkestone and is a lot more bouncier!

Open Mic nights always bring some talented people together and the atmosphere varies from event to event.

Lighting can be challenging, space can be compact and a lively audience is like playing Frogger some times.

If you see an open mic event in your area, try and have a look in, support music and the arts, it could be a night out to escape a long day at work, a place to meet friends or you could find the next musician that you love to support.

It's always worth a try, it's win, win, kinda like nothing ventured, nothing won!

I love an open mic and can't wait to see what else I can find out there to capture and share!
