Hola todos, back at it again this time with some sun ☀️. Today I’ll be covering...branding! Yes, what is your business’ branding? This is the heart of your company and aims to represent its mission.

You may wonder why I posted the Mercedes logo. Well, because anyone who can identify this logo immediately identified their brand. Whether it’s a small or large business who is established, branding is something meaningful to the owner. It’s a personal vision from the owner to their clients of what their business means.

Many businesses use their own guidelines that specify their branding. But as a general guideline, businesses usually start with the following: mission, logo, colors, and typography. Some businesses get real detailed with their guidelines and will include: icons, visuals, writing style, illustrations, patterns and the list goes on.

Happy Monday everyone! Today I will inform you about having your website compliant with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

The ADA is a civil rights law that was passed on a special year, yes my birth year, in 1990. This law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and helps people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else in the world. This applies to education, transportation and all employment.

Section 508 is referred to the Rehabilitation Act law and mandates that federal agencies develop, acquire, maintain, and use information and communications technology (ICT) that people with disabilities can access. This includes websites, call centers telephones, etc.

WCAG gives companies an actionable guide and resource for making a website accessible to users with disabilities. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) developed these standards. Their are levels such as A, AA, and AAA, that you should consider applying on your website for your users.

Although the WCAG is not considered a law, we should definitely follow their guidelines when working towards ADA and 508 compliance. You don’t want to get sued like Beyoncé did 🌚 (petty I know).

What are Backlinks in SEO 🤔?

The way I was told about backlinks in SEO made my job so much easier to explain lol. You can’t always explain things in work terminology. At least not this one 🥱.

Imagine you carrying your business cards around with you to drop them off at different businesses. Those businesses can see you’re a legit business and can refer your business to their clientele if necessary. However, you must drop these business cards off to legit businesses too. It works both ways.

This is how it works in the internet world when you’re back linking for your business. Other sites you ‘drop your business card off to’ will see that you are a quality and legit business. Search engines like Google will crawl your page (imagine a blue light like in the movie Oblivion where the robot is scanning to see if there’s humans near by 😳) then index (adding pages to Google’s search) pages from your website.

Backlinks represent a vote of confidence from one site to another. The more quality backlinks your page earns, the more valuable it is in the eyes of search engines and the more likely it is to get a high ranking site. That is why it’s important to have good content, good keywords and good backlinks to benefit from this system of ranking.

¡Feliz Viernes! Today Carlos will show us the importance of what not to put on the background of your logos or websites when it comes to certain text.

Font contrast can mean several things in typography. The contrast between typefaces or styles, the contrast between large and small type, or even the contrast between the font color and the backdrop it appears on.

In short, contrast is an important factor in how easy it is to read text. You want to avoid making your audience squint, or feel the need to put on glasses when they see your logo. You can avoid that by choosing suitable foreground, background colors, and easy to read text.

When creating a website one must always check if the website on desktop looks the same on tablet, laptop and phone. This is called Responsive Design.

The ability for a website to function on multiple devices gives users a consistent user experience without having the need for a separate mobile site, which provides a huge benefit for any site.

This used to be a pain in the butt back in the day when using queries, code, resizing images etc. Not saying it’s all gone, but theme designers made it easier now to implement Responsive Design when building websites.

Be sure your website is available in different devices in order to not limit users. Sites that are able to engage with all devices will result in converting more site visitors into leads or paying customers. 😀

Creating logos can be challenging. But many creatives find tricks to showcase their work, while simplifying their composition and ultimately finalizing a desired look. One trick that helps in this creative process is the use of negative space.

When creating a logo that requires emphasis on an object, utilizing negative space can help achieve that while keeping your logo design clean and to the point.

Negative space is the space between, within and surrounding an object in an image, often to form another image or symbol.

Negative space can give your logo an entirely different atmosphere. Negative space often adds interest as it can place a stronger emphasis on the subject, and can evoke emotions effectively. It also brings clarity to a logo without taking the focus away from subject.

Did you know that you can do SEO on your Insta & other Social Media platforms? All you have to do is make sure you are using the same keyword in the following:

• Your name or username (difficult but not impossible)

• Your Insta bio (ie. if you sell shoes, make sure you use that keyword)

• Captions (specific keyword per post)

• Hashtags

• Alt Text (yes IG has this option for pics!)

• Clean and simple web design - saturated pics & content can turn customers away.

• Consistency - keep a nice flow of info & pics, especially on your home page.

• Typography/Readability - your customers need to be able to easily read your font style.

• Color Palette - choose a color coordinated palette that vibes with your product or service.

• Mobile Compatibility - most of us are visiting sites via mobile, so this is a MUST.
