Posting at least weekly is crucial, not only to grow your followers, but to keep your brand (and this means your personal brand as well) in front of clients and prospects. Make sure your posts are informative and authentic and don’t be afraid to mix in something funny or personal. Maintain engagement, keep it real and watch your followers grow!

This July 4th, I hope you found the time to slow down for a moment, disconnect and re-connect with yourself.

Inc. Magazine reported that executives who were accustomed to working every day and were forced to take just one evening off every week felt a heightened satisfaction with their work-life balance.

Imagine what a whole day could do!

So, I encourage you to take a break or take a step back.

Spend some time remembering why you serve people, and how, in your service, you better other people’s lives and your own.

That way when you do return to work, you do so ready to lead, engage, and serve your current and future clients with a renewed sense of urgency.

Did you know that ATTORNEY BIOS account for 80% of all LAW FIRM WEBSITE traffic?

Your professional bio is often the first impression prospective clients have of you, and can play the biggest role in influencing hiring decisions.

So when was the last time your bio was updated?

We recommend updating your bio at least once every three months. While this may seem like a lot of work, great content that elevates you as a thought leader needs to be shared. It shows that you are active and engaged in your profession and practice specialty.

Include any new professional or civic organizations you've joined. Link to webinar recordings, articles, and blogs. List in-person speaking engagements and summarize impressive and impactful representative matters.

If your bio is not up to date, take this as your sign to dust off that gem and make sure that when your potential clients are getting to know you, they get the best impression of all you have to offer.

Well I blew it..April 12th was “Be Kind to Lawyers Day” - who knew???

Anyway, this got me thinking about why lawyers need a special holiday, and very specifically, a holiday to remind you to be kind. After all, is there a “Be Kind to Your Legal Marketer Day”? I think not.

It brings up an interesting point. The perception of lawyers, sometimes deeply internalized by attorneys themselves, can be somewhat negative. From wisecracks about billable hours, to talk about ambulance chasing, some popular wisdom holds that lawyers are out to get you.

I’ve seen this reflected in my law firm clients who are concerned with not coming off too pushy or too “salesy”, so much so, that although they know they need to do this "marketing thing", they don’t want to "promote themselves".

Yet, when people are dealing with the stickiest situations around, many times emotional, usually very stressful, it’s lawyers they turn to for help.

If attorneys and law firms can recognize that promoting their services - and I mean this in the true definition of "SERVICE" , “how can I be of service to you?”, is coming from a heart-centered perspective, then it will resonate with clients, not repel them.

It looks like I'll get another chance to show my appreciation on November 4th - National Love Your Lawyer Day!

A Harvard Business School professor famously concluded that it takes just 7 seconds to make a first impression, and some research suggests it takes only one-tenth of a second for someone to size you up.

So what does those stats mean to and ? Well my friends, it means that you make your biggest impact on a prospect in your first interaction, not just your first face-to-face interaction. You need to impress in your first email, you need to show up as a thought leader on social media, you need to provide them with content that is relevant to them and their business or their personal pain points.

Max out these early moments!

- Add them to your client database so you can show them the love on a consistent basis.
- Link In with them right after you meet.
- Most importantly, share something of value related to their industry or area of legal concern - an article, a fact, or a podcast.

Of course it's impossible to show someone your value in 7 seconds, but these 3 simple actions will allow you to efficiently and authentically nurture a budding business relationship and start off on the right foot.
