First off, can we all agree that Moira Rose (Catherine O'Hara) is an absolute icon?!?! I started watching Schitt$ Creek again for like the gazillionth time because it never gets old and is my happy place!! As I was watching the first episode, Moira said something that struck me as perfect timing for the Halloween spirit going on—so I ran with it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have wanted to do a Moira-inspired illustration for so long, but I have spent so much time cocooning myself in my comfort zone that I was too scared to try my hand at one of the most iconic television characters (and actresses) of all time!! But I did it!! I stepped outside of my comfort zone, grabbed my apple pencil by the horns, and I drew my heart out—and I could not be more excited to have done it!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It makes absolutely no never mind to me whether or not my illustration is perfect—it is the fact that I did something, perfect or imperfect, that I didn't think I ever could! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

My kid and I had a 🐭 drawing challenge, and he put me to shame! I’ll share in my stories—because if I posted them here, no one would ever want to see my work again, only his, hehe!!

Goodness knows I have a million half-started ideas, but I just can't seem to pull any of them together. Some days are just like that, and that's okay.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So I am keeping it simple today and reminding myself that in due time, I will get to where I am going—and you will too! 🕊

Woo!! I am stepping all kinds of out of my comfort zone, and I am nervously here for it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am working on carving a path that fits me, and it will probably be messy and certainly won't be perfect, but I am learning to embrace it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have always been one of those who can: ➕Procrastinate like nobody's business. ➕Feel like my best is never good enough. ➕Critique myself and my work too harshly. ➕Think that if my work doesn't compare to all of the brilliant creatives out there, it must have no place in the social world. And the list goes on, but I think you get the gist.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am learning to stop comparing myself and simply looking at the incredible creative work I see in the social hemisphere as inspiration alone! Because it will not matter how long I am doing this, how much I hone my craft, how possibly good I am, my work is mine and theirs is theirs, and it will never compare—good or bad, and that is how it should be—it is meant to be, and should be different!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So I will continue working, continue learning, continue growing, and continue carving my own path! Patterns, colors, and all!

"If you aren't uncomfortable, you aren't growing," that's how the saying goes, right? Well, I am uncomfortable, haha!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are about 5 trillion things I would change about this illustration, and I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to post it from a progress, accountability standpoint. And then my kid peeked over my shoulder and saw my iPad and told me, "ooooh, mommy, that's cool!" So I put my big girl pants on and decided to share. Not because it is perfect, but because it is evidence that perfection is overrated and learning new things is super cool—even if you aren't the best at it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am not where I want to be in so many aspects, so I am stepping out and finding where I want to be and how to get there. So I am delving into things unknown for me, trying new ways of getting all of the creative thoughts out of my head and into some tangible form. I would rather be uncomfortable trying things unfamiliar to me and growing than staying stuck and never seeing what potential may be waiting to take shape.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

P.S. I used the Kids Make Art brush set from and used the set to add texture.

I bought a shirt at Target with this phrase on it, and I couldn't be more obsessed with it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fall is my favorite of all of the seasons, and sadly it is also the shortest of the seasons. So I try to make the most out of all of the things as long as I can!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Side note, shading, blending, and making things look dimensional are not my strong suit. And though it could for sure use some more work, I am totally digging this and am proud of stepping out of my comfort zone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The weight of all of the things, the anxiety, the feelings of failing, the frustration of not being where I want to be professionally (and in life) have really been weighing me down.

But good days still happen amid chaos – and sometimes we need a reminder – so here is your reminder that today is a good day to have a good day!

Oh my gosh, is anyone else here just royally terrible at time management, or is it just me?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I start every day with the absolute best intentions only to be derailed before I have even finished my first cup of coffee. There is just not enough time in the day for all of the things I want and need to do!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also have the perfectionist type mindest of "well, if I can't do it as well as I want to now, then I should put it off till I can," which if anyone else here is like that, then you know what an avalanche that can create – eeeek!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But alas, like most everything on my to-do list, I am a , haha!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have tons going on in my "studio" (I use air quotes because I'm really not that fancy yet) and am super excited to share them with you – like this color palette for a brand concept I am working on for a new floral studio. I love working with clients who are doing things that I have always dreamed of doing but never took the chance to try – like having a floral studio, or a bakery, or a cute little apothecary because I get to live vicariously! 🙌🏼⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Whelp, today is a new day, a new Monday at that, so here is to setting the tone and goals for the week – may the odds be in our favor!

Life is messy, embrace it, roll with it, grow from it! At least that is what I keep telling myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mistakes are bound to be made now and again, and as tough as it is for the ego to grasp, it does not mean you are a failure. Again, this is at least what I keep telling myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I definitely have an easier time forgiving others of their mistakes than I do my own. I can also easily give advice and tell someone else to give themself grace, but myself, yeah, not so much. But maybe, just maybe, if I share these words here, I will start to believe them to be true even for me in the moments where I should be giving myself a little more grace.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
