Last year, I missed this workshop because I convinced myself I was too busy.
This year, I made a different decision.
I stepped away from my desk, emails and client work for a couple of hours to attend an Equine Leadership workshop with Team Building and Leadership Development Melbourne and Geelong
I’ll admit, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Working alongside horses isn’t something I’d ever experienced before, but it turned out to be one of the most valuable leadership sessions I’ve ever attended.
One idea I took away from today was:
Stop. Learn. Come back.
During one exercise, something wasn’t working. My instinct was to apply more pressure. Instead, I stopped, watched someone with more experience, learnt a different approach and came back with more confidence.
It made me realise how often we do exactly the same thing in business.
When a process isn’t working, a conversation isn’t landing, or someone in the team is struggling, our instinct is often to push harder.
Sometimes the better answer is to pause, learn something new, and come back with a better approach.
As business owners, we invest in software, equipment, marketing and systems. They’re all important, but none of them will grow your business as much as investing in yourself.
A huge thank you to the team at EQ Leaders for such a unique experience. I’ve already put some of these lessons into practice this afternoon, and I know they’ll make me a better leader for my team and a better partner for my clients.
Now… to keep a smile on the lead rope. 🐴
