Top 5 things you need to know about SEO!
SEO is search engine optimization, what that means is kind of a lot. But basically speaking it is the practice of utilizing text and metadata to help you or your brand get found or “rank” on search engines like Google. So when you search for something on Google, they take the text in the search bar and automatically run it past billions of possibilities. Only the pages with the strongest metadata and relative text gets shown on the infamous “First Page '' of Google. The reason being on the first page is super important is because I, as well as many, am a regular human and can be a little lazy when it comes to search queries and will most likely NOT venture past the first page. Think about it. When was the last time you went past the first page? I personally have no idea myself.
So how do you rank on the first page without spending tons of money on ads?
The answer is an SEO that lifts. Like your SEO goes to the gym and drinks raw eggs for breakfast in front of people.
Here are 5 tips to get better SEO and begin the process of ranking better in search results:
1. Define your “keywords”.
This means taking a few minutes and looking at the content you are about to unleash into the wilderness and contemplate on what you are saying to the world. Describe your content’s concept to yourself in 5 to ten words or phrases. These will be your “Keywords”.
2. Research your platform's unique SEO.
Every platform, be it social media or a website, has a different and unique method of discovery, and finding the correct way to utilize your platform to its potential is key. Take a few minutes to find a YouTube video on your specific platform - or you could hire a consultant.
3. Do not repeat keywords but use similar words within the context of your content.
For example if you are selling handmade boots for cats you would want to have all of those keywords listed individually either in hashtag form or separated by commas depending on the platform.
Ex: handmade, boots, cats,
Or
# handmade # boots # cats
You would not want to simply repeat “boots” and “cats” unless you are building up and about to let loose a sick edm house drop.
4. Research related keywords and hashtags that surround your niche to use on social media.
On social platforms like Instagram you can search for actual hashtags directly to see what other people in your niche are posting and what kind of response they get. You can follow the hashtags directly as you would an account. Then what you will want to do is open a doc or notepad and go ahead and start listing out these hashtags so you can copy and paste to your description (or wherever is relevant to the platform). This will eventually begin showing your post to people that also follow those tags. When researching tags to use, don't only go for the super big millions of posts type of tags, go for tags within the 5k to 50k range depending on your niche and content. These types of tags typically have more of an “organic” traffic to them and will house a more truly interested community.
5. Use Google Trends. It’s free.
Google trends is a really great way to find out what searches are currently, or have been, trending on Google. It’s a free resource that can help you learn to get your content to a more trending position on Google and other platforms that use Google as a backbone for both data and data. Yes you just read those both differently.
