Another day of sharing our journey of building a family business from $0 to $100k+ in a brand new city, 1,000 miles from home with zero connections

We started a business in a industry we had no experience in.
We had built houses, flipped houses, bought houses, sold houses, remodeled houses - but had never detailed them. Lol

So why would we start a brand new business in an field we knew nothing about?
Because the numbers, schedule and start up capital worked for our family in this season.

We knew that we needed to find someone that was an expert in the field to fill all the gaps.

This was the hardest part.
This was the part that I almost couldn’t do.

This is the part I had to surrender, fully. I wasn’t afraid of the work that would need to be done - we’d done plenty of hard things before.

I wasn’t afraid of unknown, everything in our life had gone the opposite we thought it would.

I was afraid of the goodbye.
The things and moments we had worked so hard for.
The life we deeply loved. The dreams that had come true. We built a whole life in that house.

And we walked away from it on purpose, because we finally had to admit that being comfortable and doing what we were meant to do aren’t the same thing.

We had to burn the boats and we knew that, but I refuse to not admit it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. (And I still cry about it some days)

You’re allowed to outgrow a good life and want a different one. We did.

It doesn’t mean you are ungrateful or selfish.

You are allowed to go for it.
No matter what the world thinks.
You are allowed to change everything, for every single generation what comes after you.

Loaded up a U-Haul
Drove 1,000 miles.
Moved to a place where we didn’t know a single person.

Then launched a brand-new business and landed our first client in less than 30 days.

I’m convinced most people don’t need a better plan.
They need a bigger bite.

The fastest way to find out what you’re capable of is to put yourself in a situation where failure would be really inconvenient.

Turns out, that’s where growth lives.

I don’t really hear people talking about how much of this you do terrified.

The starting, the building, the creating of something important.
Scared you’re going to make the wrong call.
Scared no one will hire you.
Scared it isn’t going to work.
Scared you’ll run out before it “works”.

Honestly, we didn’t do this because of one insane moment of courage or bravery, but because staying stuck in a life we knew we weren’t meant for scared us more.

From us to you - build it scared.
Build it lonely.
