Albany’s next bus terminal might already exist 🚎👀

Just days after Albany County scrapped its controversial South End bus station plan, a new proposal is putting the terminal beneath the Empire State Plaza. The plan is to relocate Albany’s intercity bus terminal to the Empire State Plaza Concourse, using existing underground infrastructure that supporters say was originally designed for bus operations.

The plan, led by Albany Chief City Auditor Sam Fein and public relations executive Joe Bonilla, would place buses beneath the Plaza with weather-protected access to downtown destinations, food options, parking, and transit connections. Supporters estimate the project could cost less than $1 million and serve as an alternative to the recently abandoned $7 million South End bus station proposal.

The concept remains in its early stages, but organizers say they are building a coalition of transportation experts, community leaders, and public officials to move the idea forward.

Albany County has officially abandoned plans to build a new intercity bus terminal at the former McDonald’s and South End Grocery site on South Pearl Street 🚎

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced the county will no longer pursue the proposed bus terminal project following significant pushback from South End residents, who voiced concerns about traffic, environmental impacts, and the potential effects on the neighborhood. The site was being considered as part of a larger effort to improve regional transportation infrastructure, but county officials ultimately decided to abandon the plan after gathering community feedback. The property will now be put up for sale, and if a redevelopment project does not materialize, officials say the site could be demolished and converted into overflow parking for MVP Arena 🏗️

This local rescue helps thousands of cats find homes every year 🐈

While exploring the Capital District Regional Market in Menands, we came across a local organization doing some incredible work for cats and kittens around the Capital Region 🐾

Founded right here in Upstate New York, Kitten Angels is a nonprofit rescue organization focused on helping abandoned and orphaned kittens, pregnant cats, and mother cats through a network of dedicated foster homes. Rather than operating a traditional shelter, their animals receive care, socialization, and medical attention in foster homes while they wait for their forever families. The organization relies on volunteers, foster families, donations, and community support to continue its mission. If you’ve ever considered adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating, Kitten Angels is always looking for people willing to help make a difference for local cats in need 🙌

The Capital District Regional Market has been connecting local farms and shoppers since 1933 🛍️🌾

Everyone knows about the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, but did you know the Capital Region is home to another historic market that’s been serving local farmers and shoppers for nearly a century? The Capital District Regional Market in Menands was established in 1933 and remains one of the region’s most important connections between local agriculture, businesses, and consumers. Today, the market hosts a seasonal Saturday Farmers Market, a wholesale produce market, special events, and dozens of local vendors 🥬
